I’ve put this off for a while because I’ve heard so many mixed things about this book. I really enjoyed The Jewel and especially that surprise ending; I didn’t want to hate this book. I’m happy to say that I didn’t. It wasn’t as exciting as the first book but there were a lot of things I liked more about it. Like Ash and Violet’s relationship. One of my biggest issues with the Jewel was how I felt their relationship was forced and convenient not at all real. Personally, I was kind of hoping for some Violet and Garnet but maybe that’s because I freaking love Garnet. That was my feelings in the first book however, in the White Rose, their relationship absolutely felt real and genuine so I actually believed them now. As for Garnet, my love for him is still true and strong and I have big hopes for him (and a certain character) in the final book next month.

Story wise, it was definitely slower to me and there were parts that dragged and I also felt the romance aspect wasn’t as strong, which was slightly disappointing for me. But we learn alongside Violet about her history and what powers she truly has.

It’s fascinating taking that journey along with her and seeing what she can do. I also enjoyed the journey out of the Jewel. It was dangerous, it was thrilling and it was fun.

While I never saw the ending of the Jewel coming, the ending for the White Rose was very predictable. It makes me sad but I saw it coming from a mile away.
