YOU GUYS. This book is everything I wanted it to be and more. EVERYTHING. Like, I legit had a big ass grin on my face at the end for hours. I was so freaking happy and excited and dying for more.
Jefferson was amazing in Walk on Earth a Stranger but I can happily say that he has quickly become one of my all-time favorite fictional boys. He’s such a gentleman and kind and loving and loyal and fierce and strong and intelligent and just perfect. I never really thought a person could love as deep and true as he does but it’s true. They can and it’s rare and it’s beautiful. He also embraces his heritage and he’s passionate about his other half.
Leah has grown so much from when we met her at her home in Georgia in the first book to even the beginning of this book. However, by the end of Like a River Glorious, the growth is unreal and amazing. She’s brave, determined, fierce, loyal, strong, intelligent, straight-forward, kind, badass, magical and gosh, I really could go on and on and on about her but I won’t. Her powers are transforming to something even greater than you or I or even she ever expected. She’s got a new nickname that I’m absolutely in love with because it’s true.
We also have the same characters we’ve become attached to from the first book throughout this book and there are some losses (one that really is like a punch in the gut for me). There’s a huge battle scene that’s epic (especially the end). There’s also a few new characters we meet along the way and a few of those will really stick to you. There’s especially one, who you wouldn’t expected but I’m so in love (in a totally different way).
This book picks up exactly where the first book left off and it was great to be back with them, in California. The pacing was perfect, the tension was torturous and the romance was heavier than the first book but not overdone. It was like the perfect mix of everything and I can’t begin to tell you how excited I am for the next one.
The best news is that there is NOT a killer cliffhanger, which really left me surprised. Second books in trilogies are known for their awful cliffhangers so that was unexpected.
