Beautiful Bastard by Christina Lauren Review

Beautiful Bastard by Christina Lauren
Release Date: February 12, 2013
Publisher: Gallery Books; 305 pages
An ambitious intern.
A perfectionist executive.
And a whole lot of name calling.

Whip-smart, hardworking, and on her way to an MBA, Chloe Mills has only one problem: her boss, Bennett Ryan. He's exacting, blunt, inconsiderate—and completely irresistible. A Beautiful Bastard.

Bennett has returned to Chicago from France to take a vital role in his family's massive media business. He never expected that the assistant who'd been helping him from abroad was the gorgeous, innocently provocative—completely infuriating—creature he now has to see every day. Despite the rumors, he's never been one for a workplace hookup. But Chloe's so tempting he's willing to bend the rules—or outright smash them—if it means he can have her. All over the office.

As their appetites for one another increase to a breaking point, Bennett and Chloe must decide exactly what they're willing to lose in order to win each other.

Originally only available online as The Office by tby789—and garnering over two million reads on fan fiction sites—Beautiful Bastard has been extensively updated for re-release.

Warning this is an adult book with adult themes.  This series is not recommended for anyone under the age of eighteen.

So I am gonna start out with a little confession.  I used to read fanfiction (fanfic) on a daily basis.  Sometimes when you read a book, you are just so drawn to the characters that you just can't say goodbye to them after you read "The End" in the final paragraph of the series.  So what do you do?  You find fanfiction.  Occasionally while you read some fanfics, you start to think, "This would be a great story on it's own."  You start to see past the characters that inspired them and they become the fanfic author's characters.  This is definitely what happened when I read "The Office" a few years ago.  I am so delighted to dive back and rediscover the characters that I fell in love with.  So reading Beautiful Bastard was like being reunited with an old friend.

I am pretty sure everyone has the one coworker that really grinds your gears.  But what about those who grind your gears, that are insanely attractive?  That really puts a bind in the situation doesn't it?  Unfortunately for Chloe Mills this person is her boss Bennett Ryan.  Chloe and Bennett from the get go don't get along.  They argue more than they can conduct a peaceful conversation with one another.  And one day after an explosive argument, things get a little out of hand.  Chloe and Bennett give into their mutual physical attraction to one another and have sex.  In a conference room.  Against a window.  Oh yes!

I read a bunch of young adult books, so it's not too often that I read things that are really spicy.  But sometimes, you just want something easy to read with a simple plot that doesn't fade to black.  Now I want to make one thing clear, I really don't classify this book as erotica.  I know that a lot readers of this series do.  But I consider erotica to be all sex and no plot, and there is definitely a plot to this story.  Yes there is sex, a lot of sex actually.  But Chloe and Bennett's relationship blossoms into something so beautiful that it almost feels like an injustice to call this erotica.  Something that starts as strictly physical, turns into an emotional personal journey between two people.

I am glad that this has expanded into a series!  I was pleasantly surprised to find out how many books were released in this series.  Because I would love to see how Chloe and Bennett's relationship grows!  This series is perfect for anyone who wants to unwind and get lost.  So grab a glass a wine, dim the lights, and curl up with this gem!

  1. I haven't read any of the new wave of erotica novels that have come out, but the title! The cover! The synopsis! I may just have to pick this one up. IT looks like it doesn't take itself too seriously, which is always good.
