Dan Krokos's sequel to the tour de force False Memory is a mind-blowing thriller with high-octane action that will leave readers begging for the final book in this bold and powerful trilogy.
If you have NOT read False Memory please read with caution. There are some spoilers that were unavoidable. Proceed with caution . . .
First, I know it's minor but I don't like the changes to the covers. They've made them simplier and it just seems rather...bare. I still like the covers, don't get me wrong but after having the first one and even the ARC of the second one, those covers are just so beautiful. (If you need to see the original cover art it's here) Simple is sometimes a good thing, don't get me wrong but I just don't see the reason for the cover change.
Alas, moving on because who really cares, right? It's about what's inside the book that really counts and seriously, this book could have stick figure drawings on it and I would STILL recommend it to anyone would give me about five minutes to gush. I loved the first book to pieces. I always love reading a first book because there are expectations but you never really know what to expect. Every author has a different writing style and a different voice so you never know what you'll get until you're reading it. I love Dan Krokos. While reading his book, I really felt like I was a part of it not just someone who was standing on the sidelines looking in. Even more so in this book. The amount of action and adventure in this book makes you feel like you're living on an adrenaline high.
The one thing I like most about this series is it's the one series that comes to mind that I think guys would like it just as much as girls. It's not overloaded with romance (which is usually a turn off for most male readers) but enough to satisfy us ladies; the amount of action and adventure is pure fun for both sexes and the story/world/characters are brilliant enough for anyone and everyone to enjoy. Not many author can write not just one book but two (and I'm going out on a limb here ;) and saying all three books) where it's so appealing to everyone. Sure, a lot of YA books can appeal to all ages but most times it's still women. I could hand these books to my older brother, who reads a lot, and I know he'd enjoy them. I could probably also hand them to my younger brother, who never really reads, and believe he'd like them just as much, too.
False Sight had me depressed most of the time. I don't think I can say why because it's a spoiler which also makes it very hard to write this review because it's such a big part of the book and it happens very early on. Let's just say there is a death and a betrayal that has your mind spinning and your heart hurting. So many emotions were on high alert all throughout this book and even up through the end. Speaking of the end . . . probably one of the most insane book endings I've ever read. I can't say the most depressing because it's not but it's just . . . there's so much happening; it's so hard to wrap your head around it meanwhile sitting there contemplating what's going to come in the final book.
I read this book in hours; I literally couldn't put it down. It was the same that happened with the first book. Once you start reading, it's impossible to do anything else. No matter what Dan Krokos writes in the futre, I'm reading it. He's already proven that he can write different age level books as I loved his Middle Grade book, The Planet Thieves.
There aren't too many second books that live up to the expectations of the first one and even surpass it but False Sight is one that does. It makes my mind explode of giddiness of how awesome the third book is going to be. I can't even wrap my head around the greatness that is awaiting us.
If you haven't read the first book, False Memory, than shame on you. Go out to the library or bookstore or Amazon and get your copy now! That way you'll be set for when this releases in a few weeks! Also, stop by here on August 7 as we feature Dan Krokos as Author Rockstar with an interview and giveaway (hint: you'll want the first book cause we're giving the second one away).
Thank you so much to Disney-Hyperion for a copy of this ARC at Comic Con New York; seeing this book available that early was unexpected but amazing. I read this book in exchange for an honest review. See you all back here on August 7!
