Blog Tour: Luminosity by Stephanie Thomas Review + Giveaway

Luminosity by Stephanie Thomas
(The Raven Chronicles, #1)
Release Date: November 13, 2012
Publisher: Entangled Teen; 296 pages
My name is Beatrice. When I was born, I was blessed with the Sight. I was immediately removed from my parents and enrolled in the Institution. At the age of twelve, I had my first true vision, earning my raven’s wings. And when I turned seventeen, one of my visions came true. Things haven’t been the same since.

The Institution depends on me to keep the City safe from our enemy, the Dreamcatchers, but I’m finding it harder to do while keeping a secret from everyone, including my best friend Gabe. It is a secret that could put us all in danger. A secret that could kill me and everyone close to me.

But the enemy has been coming to me in my dreams, and I think I’m falling in love with him. He says they’re coming. He says they’re angry. And I think I’ve already helped them win.

I really enjoyed this book. I've never read anything quite like it, actually. The idea of the Seers and the Dreamcatcher is pretty unique and awesome. The cover is absolutely spot on for this book. I love when a book cover represents a book so perfectly so well done Entangled!

Like nearly every YA book, there is a love triangle in Luminosity and one I didn't really care for. I understand why it's there but really, I didn't find Echo to be interesting one bit. Is he good looking? Absolutely! But that's about where the attractive qualities of him ended. I don't know exactly what it is about him that I don't like but I felt no connection with him whatsoever. I actually liked the character, Mirage, a lot more than him and he wasn't even around that long. (Mirage is not a love interest or even a big character...) Maybe I will see something in him that apparently Bea see's but for now, I'm absolutely happy to report I am fully on Team Gabe. He is extremely swoonworthy. I may have drooled over him...slightly...

Beatrice is pretty awesome. She's not a weak girl, in fact, she's one of the fiercest girls in the Institution and she's popular in the sense that she's important and exceeded expectations of those Seers her own age. She goes through a lot of tough situations on her own through most of this book because she's either not sure who to trust or doesn't want to put some of her closest friends lives in jeopardy.

The idea of Seers and how they see future events and are, in a sense, the protectors of the citizens is cool. However, it makes the citizens look weak and helpless which kind of sucks. Especially if they have no way to protect themselves against the Dreamcatchers who are really, their only threat. It's a battle between the Seers and the Dreamcatchers with the citizens being stuck in the middle. However, we may have seen some epic fighting scenes in Luminosity but we all know it's far from over. The battle has just begun and I really can't wait to dive back in to this world. I enjoyed all of the characters, except Echo and I can't wait.

I definitely recommend this book to YA readers who love Fantasy, dystopian and action type books. I do believe this will be perfect for you. Stephanie Thomas does a fantastic job with her debut novel and has certainly made a fan out of me.

    1. I am so glad I'm not the only one who thought that. It was disappointing. I wanted to like him, I did but I just...couldn't.
