Seventeen-year-old Annabel Conway is tired of the Hillcrest High School elite making her life miserable because she’s not a size two. This summer, she's hiring a personal trainer to help her lose weight.
Annabel doesn’t expect her trainer to be a gorgeous guy around her age. Boys like Tegan are jerks. They pretend to like girls like her so they can make an idiot out of them. Been there, done that. Totally not going there again. She kind of hates him on principal. Blond. Muscular. Funny. It doesn’t help that he knows her measurements!
Soon, Tegan's so much more than that. He’s the boy who teaches her to box when she has a bad day. Who jogs with her and lets her set the pace. Who kisses her until she melts. He makes her feel beautiful regardless of what the scale says. Unlike her mom, he doesn’t expect perfection, and he doesn't try to shield her from the world like her dad and best friend. Tegan likes her the way she is.
But what happens when he’s not there? He can’t always be there…
Will Annabel be able to stand on her own and learn that she already measures up? That her worth doesn’t lie in what the world thinks, the scale says, or even what Tegan tells her—but in herself?
Alright guys, prepare yourself, I have a lot of emotions after this book. Had your breathers? Good. Here we go.
Nyrae Dawn has completely sent me on a whole new guilt pleasure ride. As some of you may know, I have recently been addicted to Nyrae's stories, and this one is no different.
Measuring Up is about Annabel Conway, she's your normal High School student, with a few problems of her own. Due to being bullied in school because of her weight, she feels that she needs to lose it. At this point, I was thinking (noooo, be proud of your size!) But when I realized that her personal trainer was going to be our main hottie I averted to (stay, be close to him, actually just stay in the gym, okay? okay.). I think it's easy to say that I'm a bit weird, but we're not talking about me, we're talking about this amazing book.
As I was saying before, Annabel does go to the gym, and Tegan is her personal trainer, in which Annabel isn't very fond of, but I think we all know that, that changes. And I'm glad!
Staying on Annabel, her weight isn't her only problem. Her mother has these expectations for her, that Annabel hates, and I would too, Annabel, I would too.
So let's get to Tegan. Tegan is (as you all know) the personal trainer, but even when you think he's perfect, he's not. No. He's not. (repeated that because I thought it would add some sort of effect.) He has his own personal demons, that he thinks he has to face by himself, but little did he know, that Annabel was going to sneak up on him and change his life. Just like he did with her.
The story line was amazing, because it deals with actual real-life situations these days. The romance was worth reading, it was at a great pace and completely compelling from the very first punch. (yes, I said punch.)
Overall, Nyrae Dawn, you have compelled me, and I know I've told you a million times, but just for the sake of my sanity, I will say it again. I love your stories!.... (maybe I was the one that needed a breather?)
So even though this book is short, it's worth it. I'm starting to like short novels now. They're quick. They're fun. Easy breezy, lemon squeezy.
5 HUMONGOUS STARS.
