This book took a different direction then Marked, the first book, did. Marked was the first of the series, so it was introducing you to a lot about the House of Night world, Betrayed however, gets into things a little deeper, and like the Harry Potter books, each one seems to get darker.
In Betrayed we learn a lot about the characters at the Tulsa House of Night. I love the character development in this book, it helps you to identify and understand why certain characters are the way that they are. Zoey has taken over the Dark Daughters and is researching on how to make the group be more focused on positive aspects of magic and rituals. Zoey also has to deal with the fact that she has imprinted with her human ex-boyfriend, which has a very HOT car make out scene **fans self**, but she also has to worry about not upsetting her new Vampire boyfriend with her imprinting on her ex. These are not the only problems Zoey has to deal with though, students from her former high school are turning up missing and sadly are being found dead and drained of blood. The House of Night looks guiltier then ever, and when Zoey finds out the truth, this is where the awesome title comes from.
As I said before there is a lot of character development in this book, and we learn a lot about Aphrodite, we come to understand why she is the way she is, and if anything understand her a little better, but that doesn't mean she is likeable. She starts to open up to Zoey and her friends when she is starting to have vision about people close to Zoey. This book has a very sad chapter in it. Zoey, not only has to deal with her other issues, she also has to deal with a betrayal she never saw coming nor did she ever want to see. With all the stress she is dealing with, Zoey is trying to understand why the teenage boys were killed and what is happening to her world.
This book was really good. It explained a lot from the first book, which to me was a little over kill, but I suppose if you hadn't read the first one it would explain a lot, but I don't know who would start a series on the second book. Aside from that, I love the twist and turns in this book. I did not expect a lot of what I read, and I love books that can keep you on your toes!
