Goodreads Summary: Meghan Chase has a secret destiny; one she could never have imagined.

Something has always felt slightly off in Meghan's life, ever since her father disappeared before her eyes when she was six. She has never quite fit in at school or at home.

When a dark stranger begins watching her from afar, and her prankster best friend becomes strangely protective of her, Meghan senses that everything she's known is about to change.

But she could never have guessed the truth - that she is the daughter of a mythical faery king and is a pawn in a deadly war. Now Meghan will learn just how far she'll go to save someone she cares about, to stop a mysterious evil no faery creature dare face; and to find love with a young prince who might rather see her dead than let her touch his icy heart.

We begin our journey into Nevernever with THE IRON KING and what a journey it is. The amazing start to a great series about faeries – one of the best, in my opinion. I am ashamed to admit I’ve never read nor seen A Midsummer Night’s Dream and I should probably make an effort to, especially after reading this book. There are lots of references, including characters, throughout.

I really like Meghan Chase. There are lots of female leads who are annoying and weak but Meghan is not one of them. She’s thrown into a new world, one she didn’t know she was a part of but the only mission she has, for herself, is to save her little brother, Ethan, from the new Iron Kingdom.

We meet her best friend (in the human world), Robbie Goodfell but we later find out that this is, in fact, the infamous Robin Goodfellow from A Midsummer Night’s Dream but he goes by the name Puck. He is, if you will, King Oberon’s right hand man in the Seelie Court, also known as the Summer Court. He was put in charge of watching over Meghan in the human world and making sure she never steps foot in Nevernever, the faerie world. Puck is a jokester, through and through but yet, I find him insanely charming.

Later on we meet Prince Ash of the Unseelie Court, also known as the Winter Court. Meghan is quite taken with him even if he considered the enemy. And so we have this stories very own love triangle being created between Puck, Meghan and Ash.

I came out of this story as a Puck girl but I do like Ash, and I like the adventure that Meghan and Ash took together in this story, it gave their relationship a chance to grow. Meghan and Puck have been friends for years so their relationship was already solid. I was looking forward to seeing how these two would get along and boy was it interesting.

This book and this series is a must read for all those who love YA Fantasy, I doubt you’ll be disappointed. It’s filled with adventure, humor, drama and romance – what more could you ask for?!
