A Week of Mondays by Jessica Brody
Release Date: August 2, 2016
Publisher: Farrar, Straus and Giroux; 464 pages
When I made the wish, I just wanted a do-over. Another chance to make things right. I never, in a million years, thought it might actually come true...

Sixteen-year-old Ellison Sparks is having a serious case of the Mondays. She gets a ticket for running a red light, she manages to take the world’s worst school picture, she bombs softball try-outs and her class election speech (note to self: never trust a cheerleader when she swears there are no nuts in her bake-sale banana bread), and to top it all off, Tristan, her gorgeous rocker boyfriend suddenly dumps her. For no good reason!

As far as Mondays go, it doesn’t get much worse than this. And Ellie is positive that if she could just do it all over again, she would get it right. So when she wakes up the next morning to find she’s reliving the exact same day, she knows what she has to do: stop her boyfriend from breaking up with her. But it seems no matter how many do-overs she gets or how hard Ellie tries to repair her relationship, Tristan always seems bent set on ending it. Will Ellie ever figure out how to fix this broken day? Or will she be stuck in this nightmare of a Monday forever?

So, I'm here to tell you if I had to relive a Monday for a whole week, what would be my ideal, happy Monday to repeat and what would be my Monday I'd rather forget. One is true and one is not.

The Monday I wish never would've happened and will never happen again started very different. I woke up, checked my phone to see a missed phone call and voicemail from my best friend. She never calls before texting to make sure I'm free. I find it strange but think nothing of it; she knows I don't wake up early because of my job. I start to listen to the voicemail and immediately, I regret it. It's not my best friend but her brother, whom I've never met nor talked to. He sounds visibly upset and I'm holding my breath. He tells me she passed away overnight, around 3 am from an asthma attack. They worked on trying to get her breathing for over an hour before they called it. She made the call herself while her young son and father were sound asleep down the hall. They had no idea what was going on until the paramedics barged in. My best friend, who was just up here from Florida not even two weeks ago celebrating my birthday. It was something we did; I didn't like flying and she loved Maryland so every six months, October (for her birthday) and March (for mine) she would come up here, we'd celebrate and just have fun hanging out with each other. She had a fascination with the steps in my house because her house is only one level. I was a wreck. I wasn't awake, I wasn't expecting this and I wished so badly that it was only a nightmare and I actually hadn't woken up. I went downstairs, barely got the words out to my mom before I broke down again. I was such a wreck that I couldn't even call my best friends brother back; my mother had to do it. I went to work, I cried the whole time, I broke down in front of my boss. It was a day I wish never happened and it's one I never wish to relive.

My ideal Monday to relive would be one where I woke up and got a call from my boss telling me to enjoy the day off, since it's so nice outside. I'm saying, no humidity, low 70's, slight, cool breeze, blue sky, beautiful, fluffy clouds. The whole works. I mean, a day off with such wonderful weather? Who wouldn't be happy? Did I mention it was a PAID day off? But then...but THEN...your boyfriend, who you recently moved in with decides he's going to buy you the puppy of your dreams. A cute, adorable, perfect pug - he's tan with that adorable black nose/mouth. His tail is a perfect curve and he fits in your arms perfect. You name him after one of your favorite book characters, Chaol and you couldn't be happier. You go out shopping, buy all the things you need for Chaol, maybe even spoil him a little bit because he's perfect. Find out that he gets along really great with the dog that your boyfriend already owns; which was something you were worrying about from the second you saw his tiny, perfect face. Your afternoon flies by, with you setting up things for Chaol, snuggling Chaol, playing with Chaol - basically everything Chaol. Evening comes around and you're meeting up with your parents for dinner, whom you're really close with. At dinner, they drop the bomb that they're moving and while you're sad, because they won't be nearby, you're excited when you find out where. Costa Rica. Could you just imagine yourself going to visit them? In my head, I'm already making my plans, picking out my bathing suit and worrying about whose watching Chaol because I wanna sit out on the beach and just read. By the end of dinner, your first trip down there is already planned and they haven't even left Maryland yet. Who cares? The rest of the day, you're kind of just on cloud 9. It's not a busy Monday to relive but a happy, relaxing one around the people you love most. It may not sound exciting to you but it's nearly perfect for me.

What Monday would you want to relive? Even if it's not the whole day, what's something that's happened to you on a Monday that you wish happened every Monday?! Give me something happy!
