Blog Tour: My Lady Jane by @ladyjanies {Review + Giveaway}

My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, Jodi Meadows [Lady Janies]
Release Date: June 7, 2016
Publisher: HarperTeen; 512 pages
Rating:
The comical, fantastical, romantical, (not) entirely true story of Lady Jane Grey. In My Lady Jane, coauthors Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows have created a one-of-a-kind fantasy in the tradition of The Princess Bride, featuring a reluctant king, an even more reluctant queen, a noble steed, and only a passing resemblance to actual history—because sometimes history needs a little help.

At sixteen, Lady Jane Grey is about to be married off to a stranger and caught up in a conspiracy to rob her cousin, King Edward, of his throne. But those trifling problems aren’t for Jane to worry about. Jane gets to be Queen of England.

Y'ALL. THIS BOOK IS EVERYTHING. I'm actually in the process of re-reading this book. I read the eARC but now I got my hands on a physical ARC and I'm highlighting and sticky noting the hell out of it. I read this back in January and I needed another fix.

Coming in to this book, I wasn't sure what to expect. I'm not a history buff. I know enough that I knew who Jane was but not a whole lot of her and well, the loss of her head. That didn't matter to me because I'm big fans and admirers of the three authors who came together for this story. I've had the pleasure of meeting them on tour, when they were together, and just the chemistry and fun they have when all in the same room - I couldn't wait to see how that transpired to the pages. I wasn't disappointed in the slightest. I have never laughed so much while reading a book, I never took as many screenshots as I did of my favorite quotes or favorite scenes (or now, my highlighter is getting a lot of usage out of it) and I've never fallen so in love with a story as quickly as I did this. And it's even worse the second time around.

It's told from three character's POV's and I don't think I have a favorite. I mean, I thought I did but re-reading it makes me realize I really don't. I have different color stickies for different characters and I honestly have more Edward ones than anyone else. Though, to be fair, I also have pink for love related favorites and there's a bunch of Jane and G sooooo. Speaking of, G is probably (if I had to pick) my favorite ESPECIALLY when he's with Jane. These two are just the ying and the yang. They balance each other out and they are PERFECTION.

The romance in this was fantastic, too. The build up was a slow burn. But the tension made everything worth it. Both romances, really. Lady Jane's relationship didn't start out too well but honestly, the slow burn and growth of this relationship was fire. It was beautiful and the tension was too much but I loved the torture. Then King Edward, poor lad, I never thought he'd find happiness anywhere. He was being stabbed in the back by people left and right and that just does something to a person's trust. But it was awesome.

Just when you think you can't laugh anymore than you already have, they'll have you rolling. The horse jokes are my absolute favorite. I died laughing, even a second time around, when I got to a certain chapter.

I'm so in love with this book; the fact that I'm still as obsessed and still as enthralled in a story that I originally read six months ago and diving in to again says wonders. I have recommended this book to anyone I come across and I will continue to do so. These lovely ladies need to write ALL THE BOOKS together because they bring absolute joy in to my life (and many others) with this story. I love their stories in the past, as individual's but I honestly don't think they can top what they pulled off with this book.

These three ladies right here are what friendship goals are all about.

Thank you so much to Harper Collins for allowing me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review. Thank you so much to Alexa for allowing me to take part in this blog tour. And thank you to Cynthia, Brodi and Jodi for being you.

We're the authors of the upcoming young adult novel, MY LADY JANE, which will be out with HarperTeen on June 7, 2016. Our group is made up of Brodi Ashton (author of the EVERNEATH series and DIPLOMATIC IMMUNITY), Cynthia Hand (New York Times bestselling author of the UNEARTHLY series and THE LAST TIME WE SAY GOODBYE), and Jodi Meadows (author of the INCARNATE and the ORPHAN QUEEN series). Between the three of us we've written thirteen novels, a bunch of novellas, a handful of short stories, and a couple of really bad poems, but this is the first time we've taken a stab at writing a book together. We're friends. We're writers. We're fixing history by rewriting one sad story at a time.
