These covers continue to amaze me. They're so simple yet brilliant; sometimes you don't want to overdue a cover and the simple approach tends to work out better. The different symbols in the "O" on all the covers is fantastic. Not to mention, these finished copies are MADE to run your hands across. They really bring the story to life.
That being said, Solider was an excellent addition in the Talon series/saga. I will give a fair warning, this book has a lot of information dropped on you. I feel like the first two books maybe had a bit more action and excitement throughout it while this book we focus more of the backstory of The Order and Talon. So it does read a bit slower than it's predecessors but it was still great.
I think what I liked most about Soldier (besides Riley, of course) was a more indepth look at Talon. We have a lot more chapters of Dante and the project he's currently working on; which really freaks me out. Speaking of Dante, I'm still on the fence about him. I want to like him because he's Ember's sister and he's a good guy buuuuuuut I'm just afraid he's going to disappoint me in the end so I'm not gonna invest in him until I can believe which side of the coin he'll end up on.
Riley was a bit dramatic in this book. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't change my love for him but there were times when I wanted to pull him aside and just tell him that he needed to take a chill pill or something. He was a bit much and it was becoming rather annoying. He has two books to make up for this silly behavior so I'm okay. We all have a bad days or bad weeks and I'll just cough it up to that.
You may think I don't like Garret because I'm all obsessed with Riley and all but this isn't the case and this seems to surprise a lot of people It's the same way with her Iron Fey series; she gets to me to fall in love with a character and I fall hard (I mean, Puck is STILL my overall favorite book boyfriend ever) but I liked Ash in that series; a lot. I also accepted and was absolutely okay with her choice and I'd be okay with Garret, if that happens to be her choice in the end (let's face it, my record of liking the guy who wins in love triangles is basically non-existent so there's a REALLY good chance it's going to be Garret). He's a good guy, had a rough childhood which lead to the upbringing he had. If you grow up knowing only one way of life, of course you're going to believe that is the right way. You can't fault him. He grows a lot in this book and I admire his strength.
The ending is brutal. It's Julie Kagawa so it should come as no surprise that she thrives off these ridiculous cliffhangers. She soaks up your tears and it is the fuel that keeps her going. Honestly. Just be prepared; a lot of information is dumped on you at the end plus some things happen and then it's over. I literally would've thrown my book had I not been reading it on my kindle. I threw it in my head and it didn't really feel as good as throwing the book itself but it made do.
Obviously, if you haven't read the previous books, you may want to get on that - if you have, I know you're already dying for Soldier already. Don't worry, my pretties, not too much longer left to wait! It'll be worth it.

Julie Kagawa, the New York Times bestselling author of the Iron Fey and Blood of Eden series was born in Sacramento, California. But nothing exciting really happened to her there. So, at the age of nine she and her family moved to Hawaii, which she soon discovered was inhabited by large carnivorous insects, colonies of house geckos, and frequent hurricanes. She spent much of her time in the ocean, when she wasn’t getting chased out of it by reef sharks, jellyfish, and the odd eel.
When not swimming for her life, Julie immersed herself in books, often to the chagrin of her schoolteachers, who would find she hid novels behind her Math textbooks during class. Her love of reading led her to pen some very dark and gruesome stories, complete with colored illustrations, to shock her hapless teachers. The gory tales faded with time (okay, at least the illustrations did), but the passion for writing remained, long after she graduated and was supposed to get a
real job.
To pay the rent, Julie worked in different bookstores over the years, but discovered the managers frowned upon her reading the books she was supposed to be shelving. So she turned to her other passion: training animals. She worked as a professional dog trainer for several years, dodging Chihuahua bites and overly enthusiastic Labradors, until her first book sold and she stopped training to write full time.
Julie now lives in Louisville, Kentucky, where the frequency of shark attacks are at an all time low. She lives with her husband, an obnoxious cat, an Australian Shepherd who is too smart for his own good, and a hyper-active Papillion.
