This is a little late, I know...but today was my day of recovery after working at a movie theatre for opening weekend of Star Wars. It was much needed. But now that I've had my rest...it's time to have fun!
This has been a REALLY bad year for me, reading wise. While I normally reading 100+ a year, I've read a whopping 42 books and will not be reaching my goal of 50 books. This is a first for me and it kind of depresses me.
BUT I have read some bloody fantastic books. And really . . . that's all that matters.
In no particular order . . .
An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir
An unexpected gem. I sat on this book for months before chancing it and it was the best damn decision I ever made. Such a fun, intriguing adventure and I can't wait for it's follow up!
The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh
When a book is getting a lot of buzz, it usually has me running in the opposite direction. This one didn't. And while I struggled with the names, at first, this book blew me away.
The Heart of Betrayal by Mary E. Pearson
It should be no surprise to see this book on here. I read it, for the first time, in 2014 but I re-read it in 2015 right before it's release. I can tell you - it was as great the second time around as it was the first. Such a fangirl of this series and of Mary; she's amazing.
The Mirror King by Jodi Meadows
I'll admit, the Orphan Queen was good but I didn't love it. It's sequel, however, blew it out of the universe. I was going to say water but that's not big enough to get my point across. This book was everything I needed plus SO MUCH MORE. Everything.
Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas
The Rose Society by Marie Lu
I had my issues with this book, as I'm sure a lot of people did. Especially with a specific character but as I kept reading, I understood more. And you know what, I love Celaena enough that what's important is her story, this journey. It's so much greater than you even realize. The many pieces that are involved. It's brilliant and I adore SJM so much.
I do believe this is one of those cases where the second book is better than the first. I had a few of those experiences this year and I absolutely don't mind. This book was dark, twisted and delicious.
Walk on Earth a Stranger by Rae Carson
I love Rae Carson. But I was hesitant to read this. I wasn't sure if it would be my thing but oh, it was so my thing. Honestly, I think anything she writes is my thing. In my eyes, she can do no wrong and I was strangely surprised with how much I loved this. Now, just please step aside and give me the next book. Thanks...
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
I will admit. I did not like the Grisha trilogy. The longer it's been since I read them, the less I like them. I didn't want to read this because of that but I was pushed in to reading it. I gave in because that's what I do. I'm so damn glad I did. This was nothing like that trilogy for me and I loved everything about this book. I think because it had less of the Grisha aspect.
Thicker than Water by Brigid Kemmerer
I adore Brigid. Not only is she super talented but she is one of the nicest people you could possibly hope to meet (plus, she's local which is super awesome). I love her Elementals series but this book. I cried so much. I felt so much emotion. I felt sick, literally, during times. I was stressed. I had to put this book down and there's only thing I want. I need more. This cannot be a standalone. It can't. Please.
Winter by Marissa Meyer
YOU NEED TO LISTEN TO THIS IN AUDIO. I'm so serious. Serious enough that I used all caps. I love these books, from a reading standpoint. But listening to it in audio brought on a whole new dimension for me. It's something everyone needs to experience. Audiobook fans or not. It was the first audiobook I listened to and I'm in love.
