Sometimes life leaves a mark…

Most days, Andrea doesn’t know whether she wants to kiss Tanner or punch him in the gut. He is seriously hot, with legit bedroom eyes and that firefighter body of his, but he’s a major player, and they can’t get along for more than a handful of minutes. Until now.

Tanner knows he and Andrea have had an epic love/hate relationship for as long as he can remember, but he wants more love than hate from her. He wants her. Now. Tomorrow. But the more he gets to know her, the more it becomes obvious that Andrea has a problem. She’s teetering on the edge and every time he tries to catch her, she slips through his fingers.

Andrea’s life is spiraling out of control, and it doesn’t matter that Tanner wants to save her, because when everything falls apart and she’s speeding toward rock bottom, only she can save herself.

Sometimes life makes you work for that happily ever after…

I was super excited for this book – like REALLY excited. I think, to be honest, that Frigid is one of my favorite New Adult books, if not my favorite one. So living up to my expectations on a follow up companion novel is pretty hard. This book was a great, don’t get me wrong, but it wasn’t anything compared to my feels for Frigid. The characters were fantastic, not to mention the fact that we saw plenty of Syd & Kyler throughout this entire book, which made me oh so happy.

I mean, who wasn’t eager to see Tanner and Andrea get their own story when reading Frigid? They were oozing sexual tension and I needed this book in my life asap. These two, as a couple, are fantastic. The chemistry between them is sizzling, the banter is absolutely the best, even from the beginning. The issues they face are real. There was a scene where I nearly lost my shit and I was holding back all the tears. A few managed to escape but oh wow, it was heartbreaking seeing everything unfold.

I laughed at the fact that in this book, we’re taking back out to a cabin. Obviously, not Kyler’s families’ cabin as I doubt Syd will ever step foot in that place again but it’s just ironic or something that we’re in the same environment for their best friends. But this cabin is so much different – for one, it’s not in the winter time so there’s lost of bathing suit time and sunshine.

Though, there are plenty of storms. Both literal and figuratively speaking. But imagining this cabin made me really wish I was there with them. It sounded like paradise.

I feel like I can’t really talk a whole lot about the main storyline, besides Tanner and Andrea getting together, without spoiling things so I’m going to opt not to talk about it and just let you all read it yourselves. It’s realistic. It’s moving. It’s heartbreaking. It’s something I think everyone should read and something everyone should take a minute after finishing to just let it sink in. The realism of what occurred is what occurs on a daily basis. The struggle is real for many. Some are not as lucky as Andrea is. Some are never able to get the help they need before they ruin their lives one way or another.

Thank you, JLA, for writing such a book filled with so much reality that you just can’t help but be overcome with emotions after it.

You do not have to read Frigid in order to understand and enjoy Scorched. This is a companion novel and though the characters from Frigid are in it, this is a completely different story.
