(Talon, #2)
Release Date: April 28, 2015
Publisher: Harlequin Teen;
Rating:
Ember Hill left the dragon organization Talon to take her chances with rebel dragon Cobalt and his crew of rogues. But Ember can't forget the sacrifice made for her by the human boy who could have killed her—Garret Xavier Sebastian, a soldier of the dragonslaying Order of St. George, the boy who saved her from a Talon assassin, knowing that by doing so, he'd signed his own death warrant.
Determined to save Garret from execution, Ember must convince Cobalt to help her break into the Order's headquarters. With assassins after them and Ember's own brother helping Talon with the hunt, the rogues find an unexpected ally in Garret and a new perspective on the underground battle between Talon and St. George.
A reckoning is brewing and the secrets hidden by both sides are shocking and deadly. Soon Ember must decide: Should she retreat to fight another day…or start an all-out war?
If you have NOT read Talon please read with caution. There are some spoilers that were unavoidable. Proceed with caution . . .
This book, you guys, this book is what I needed. I enjoyed Talon, I really did but Rogue really blows that book out of the water. Yes, this is coming from a Riley fan but I also have mad love for Garret, too. Everything about this book is so much better. The banter, the danger, the action, the locations (I mean, Las Vegas, HELLO) not to mention we finally get a look inside the corporation, if you will, of Talon. We get to see more of what this organization is really all about. Between Dante, who I have mixed feelings about, and Cobalt, as he worked for them in the past.
The tension between Cobalt and Ember was my favorite but that's because I'm biased when it comes to him. They're dragons are made for each other. The fact that they react by just being near the other says everything right there. I won't get in to details about those moments and the tension that you can feel just by reading. It makes me squeal, internally. Maybe out loud, too but I won't admit to anything.
Garret is really coming in to his own in this book. Everything he knew or thought he knew about dragons is being flipped on it's head. They're not all evil (though believe me, those kinds exist) and really, all they want is the chance to just live. To exist. Not to go around, burning down cities, killing every human or threat. I can't speak for Talon . . . His feelings for Ember continue to grow and continue to make things very interesting for the dragons involved. Talk about tension you can cut with a knife!
This book is filled to the brim with action, drama, tension, betrayal and even some laughs. Wes is definitely the guy to break the tension. I absolutely adore Wes and his wit.
I can't really say a whole lot more of detail without spoiling anything. My disappointed in Dante is strong. My love for Riley/Cobalt is infinite. My respect and admiration for Garret will never go away. My faith in Ember will never die. My chance to laugh with Wes is guaranteed. I have become part of this story instead of watching this story unfold.
Thank you so much to Harlequin Teen for allowing me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review. Also, a big thank you to Julie Kagawa for sending me a signed copy of Rogue to read since there were no ARCs. You are amazing, my friend!
I am giving away something a little different with this review. While I have a signed copy of Talon I could give away, I'm not going to. At least, not right now. I'm giving away a dragon made by Julie Kagawa. I know how hard these things are to get. I've missed out on quite a few I really wanted because of how fast they go. I have been lucky enough to get a few, especially Cobalt and Ember, which made my year. Those aren't the ones I'm giving away, sorry. I will never part with Cobalt. Never.
There is a disclaimer on this giveaway. Literally RIGHT after I took the picture for the giveaway, this little guy took a tumble off my bed and forgot how to fly. It all happened so fast that I had no chance to save him. Two tiny pieces have broken off him. (They are included in the picture below. His left paw & right horn) I am giving the winner the choice of letting me glue them back together OR sending the tiny pieces and you can fix them. I am so terribly upset this happened. It was never the intention and if I wasn't so in love with the other dragons I have, I would just switch the giveaway guys out. Because I feel so bad, I will also include a $15 Amazon or B&N gift card to the winner, as an apology this happened.
This giveaway is open internationally. You have until May 25 at 11:59 PM EST to enter. Good luck and may the odds be ever in your favor!

i love to be a red and yellow dragon and i think being in love with another dragon would be best as it seems complicated when you do human dragon. thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteHmm...I think red and black...instead of black and red! LOL! Basically red with black accents, because despite those being my college colors, I always did like the color combo!
ReplyDeleteOr maybe a deep purple and light blue! I do like purple since I'm way past the high school days when that was my school color!
And hmm...I want to say I'd be the dragon in love with another dragon. Then there won't be any hurt in the years to come if I'm the sort that doesn't age. But despite all that, I am still Team Garret! So...I don't know what I'd do if I was Ember, but if having the choice, I'd say dragon with dragon...unless said human can be turned into a dragon like with our vampires and werewolves! LOL!
Thank you for the giveaway! And such a sad fate for the poor dragon, but I know it's going to find a lovely home! (maybe mine!) ;)
I think I would want to be black and blue/purple. Not only is this what I mostly wear, but I would be similar coloring to Toothless. And I would be hard to spot at night :)
ReplyDeleteIf I could be a dragon, I'd be a really shimmery one. I'd be a light, cool blue color mixed with a lavender that has a cool-hue to it as well. I think then my coat would have a silvery gleam to it as well that catches the light. I wouldn't even have to change my name because Diamond the Dragon sounds badass. ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you for the giveaway Jessica!
(by the way I finished Dead of Winter, and loved it…although was a bit bummed about the ending as far as leaving things open ended like who she chose and stuff. I was def shocked by her choice (kinda)).

If I were I dragon I would be pink and grey with sparkles. I would want to be in love with another dragon because I think dating outside of your species would be awkward! ;)
ReplyDeleteI'd be light blue and brown with pink ears. I would be with another dragon - safer that way.
ReplyDeleteI feel so bad for the little guy falling and getting broken :(.
If I were a dragon... I think I'd want to be peacock blue and silver! And I dunno, if I were to choose between human (Garrett) or dragon (Riley)... I'd totally choose human! ;) #TeamGarrett
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you loved the book! I wasn't entirely too keen on how the plot moved and we got too much Riley for my taste, not for yours as you're Team Riley! Cannot wait till we find out more stuff about Talon's plans!
YAAASSS, I REMEMBERED! :D I'm so glad that you're enjoying the series! I've not read any of Kagawa's books - I thought this series would be the one for me but I think somewhere along the lines, Talon lost its appeal! I don't know o_O But I love dragons! Dragon-related books! Like, most recently, The Girl at Midnight :D
ReplyDeleteIf I were a dragon, I'd want to be purple (my favorite color - also, royalty!) and cerulean blue maybe. Gorgeous let totally overlooked because GORGEOUS. But secretly this dragon spits fire like no other ;)
Thank you for the giveaway! Honestly I'm not too upset about it being slightly damaged, it's cute and beautifully made and hey, you told us straight up. Don't feel too bad, Jessica! :)
Have a lovely day!
