This series is over and I'm sad about this. Character wise, probably one of my most enjoyed series. However, none of the books outshine the first book, The Madman's Daughter and I think I know why (besides the fact that it was brilliant). The only story I wasn't familiar with was the first one, The Island of Dr. Moreau, so it was fascinating to me. However, I am familiar The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde as well as Frankenstein. While I loved the incorporation of those stories to the story and world Megan created I think that ignorance of not being familiar with the first book's story made it all far more fascinating to me.
I did love this conclusion, even if it creeped me out (hello, this shouldn't be a surprise as there's been many times in the previous books I've cringed or been creeped out - it's what's made these books so great) and maybe I did cry a time or two. Maybe my heart hurts for a character or two, still but it was perfect. I was little bummed for the lack of romance for the first half of the book. Montgomery and Juliet almost felt like strangers to me, the way they were around each other and it made me sad to see. But have no fear, the second half of the book truly made up for it.
There's not a whole lot I can say about this book without giving too many spoilers. It's a fantastic conclusion to a great series. It's dark, like all the books have been; it's violent but again, this shouldn't be a surprise. It's a perfect blend of every element. I was really sad to see it end because ever since the first book, I've been in love with Montgomery and have had a fascination with Edward and Juliet, as individual's. I've really become attached to them and it's always so hard letting go. Sometimes, I find myself not finishing series because I don't want to let them go. I had to read this thought because I needed to know how it ended and I wanted to see everything come together.
I think if you've loved this series as much as I have then you'll be entirely satisfied with this ending. Sad, absolutely but happy at the same time. It's great and I really hope you'll agree.

YAY I'm so glad you enjoyed this one, Jessica! I'm the opposite ish - I never liked Edward, but I loved Montgomery (like you). I didn't love this series, but I'm glad I read the book (if you know what I mean?). I'm excited about The Cage though :D

I liked Edward, as his own person, not for Juliet. He was interesting and I think he got better as the series went on but that's just me. Montgomery was where most of my attention was at, though lol. The first book got 5 stars from me while the following two got 4 so it's a pretty good series for me.

I read the first book, adored the atmosphere and the plot and the challenges to Juliet as a character, but oh dear, I hated the love triangle with the force of a supernova... so I still haven't read book two because love triangle strikes again... glad to hear the conclusion was good for you!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you feel like this was a good ending. a few tears? ahh that makes me scared…lol. I totally agree that the first book was the BEST. and I also definitely know what it's like to avoid finishing a series because you don't want it to end! (like blood of olympus, i put off foreverlol ) I was familiar with all three stories, but I hadn't "read" Island of Dr. Moreau. Still, I knew the story and I still thought her take on it was SO fascinating and well-written, with the characters being the best.
