Top 10 of 2014: Best Book Covers {Day 2}
Best covers. This is bad. We're not supposed to judge books by their covers, right? But we all do it (don't you dare try to deny it). We all have those covers that we drool over, wish to pet or just want to stare at all day. Some we actually have pet when we get the final copy (I'll let you guess which one on my top 10 list I did).
These are, again, in no particular order.
Alienated by Melissa Landers. How could you NOT love this cover? I mean, seriously. It's perfect. For the story. Just, wouldn't you want to read this after seeing this cover? I would. I did.
Plus One by Elizabeth Fama. Not only does this cover fit the story perfectly, but look how beautiful it is. The book was really good, as well (though why was it only a standalone?). I just can't stop staring...
Talon by Julie Kagawa. This cover is simple. Well, it's not really but there's not a whole lot to it. Not girl or guy on the cover just scales. But it's so damn beautiful it hurts.
The Vast and Brutal Sea by Zoraida Cordova. This entire series is cover lust for me but since this is the one released in 2014, this is what I present to you. I'm not a big mermaid fan but these books, and these covers...they're everything I wanted. Also, thank you publisher for NOT putting a meremaid/mereman on the cover. You don't understand how happy this made me.
A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray. While I might not have loved the book, I can't deny the amazing cover that this is. It's so beautiful and so brilliant and just so . . . eye catching.
Snow Likes Ashes by Sara Raasch. This book was brilliant and this cover, I will admit, it what drove me to the story. I had never heard of it until I saw the cover and then I needed to know what it was about. High fantasy, I'm sold.
Lailah by Nikki Kelly. I know this book had a lot of cover buzz after it was released. I saw a lot of bloggers that I talk with talking about it. It's creepy, all those hands reaching up for her and you just can't help but be drawn to it.
Death Sworn by Leah Cypess. This cover is just so right up my alley. You can tell, just by looking at it, that it's fantasy. I wish the publisher would have done a bit more with the cover on the final copy but it's beautiful, regardless.
Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas. I love these covers, I love the font that they use and I just love what they do with them. I originally wasn't a fan when they changed the covers but that was more because I hate mid-series cover changes. They redeemed themselves, though. They re-released the first book with these new covers and I love them for that. And the color green here, so so soooooo pretty!
Midnight Thief by Livia Blackburne. The font is awesome, the colors are awesome and just the overall feel of this book is awesome. Not to mention, the story inside the cover is quite brilliant, as well.
What are some of the best covers YOU'VE seen this year?!

Talon is on my top ten and I have A Thousand Pieces of You in hardcover and the dust jacket is gorgeous, I agree. It just missed being in my top ten.
ReplyDeleteAlienated is also in my Top 10!! So many gorgeous covers in your list! So hard to pick just ten when there were soooo many gorgeous books!!
ReplyDeleteAt first I kind of hated the Alienated cover, but after I bought my own copy and stared at it... it grew on me. And now I'm just loving how well it fits the story! Plus One's just GORGEOUS, but I have yet to read Fama's books. >_< Talon's another cover that grew on me after a while. Same with A Thousand Pieces of You. Lilah has such an eerily lovely cover and I NEED IT IN MY POSSESSION ASAP.
ReplyDeleteLovely post! Thanks for sharing! I don't know if I can pick just 10 covers that I loved this year--there are so many! I'm a cover snob. ;)

YAY! Midnight Thief made my list as well! Alienated and Death Sworn were close behind, but didn't make it. I personally don't like the cover of Lailah, but I've seen it so much today! The hands creep me out a little D: Fabulous list!
ReplyDeleteHappy holidays, Jessica :)
