Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas
(Throne of Glass, #3)
Release Date: September 2, 2014
Publisher: Bloomsbury; 585 pages
Rating:
Lost and broken, Celaena Sardothien’s only thought is to avenge the savage death of her dearest friend: as the King of Adarlan’s Assassin, she is bound to serve this tyrant, but he will pay for what he did. Any hope Celaena has of destroying the king lies in answers to be found in Wendlyn. Sacrificing his future, Chaol, the Captain of the King’s Guard, has sent Celaena there to protect her, but her darkest demons lay in that same place. If she can overcome them, she will be Adarlan’s biggest threat – and his own toughest enemy.

While Celaena learns of her true destiny, and the eyes of Erilea are on Wendlyn, a brutal and beastly force is preparing to take to the skies. Will Celaena find the strength not only to win her own battles, but to fight a war that could pit her loyalties to her own people against those she has grown to love?

I normally put the giveaway after the review but I don't want some of you who may not have read Throne of Glass or Crown of Midnight (or either) get spoiled accidentally. I'm totally looking out for my fellow readers. What I'm offering you is a personalized signed copy of Heir of Fire. If you don't have any of her books, I can definitely offer Throne of Glass, if you'd prefer. This will be a short giveaway because I'm seeing her next week and I need time to hear back from a winner. Normally, I give the winner a 48 hour window to respond but unfortunately, you will only have 12 hours to respond. Check your emails when this ends, you don't want to miss out on this! If you have NOT read The Assassin's Blade, Throne of Glass & Crown of Midnight please read with caution. There are some spoilers that were unavoidable. Proceed with caution . . .

So, this book too me well over a week to read. It's a big book but that wasn't why. There were two reasons and I'm going to throw them both out there for you. One, I loved Crown of Midnight because of how much romance was in that book. There was so much that my heart couldn't take it and then in this book, it's basically non-existent. It made me sad for the first half of the book because I'm such a Chaol fangirl but after reading the second half of this book and finishing, I don't even care anymore. It was just hard for me to go from all that was in Crown of Midnight to what wasn't in this book. It's me being greedy, is all. The second reason it took me so long to read is because I wanted to savor this book. We're halfway through this series and I don't want to have to wait for the next book. I'm not a very patient person so I wanted to take my time, enjoy every word written in this book, each character and their stories. I wanted to take it all in and not miss a thing.

Before reading this, I kept hearing all these things about Manon but then, I'm introduced to her and I'm wondering what all this hype is over this character. I wasn't impressed in the beginning and I was tempted to skip over her chapters but I couldn't do that because of how much I love this series. It would feel like I've betrayed Celaena somehow and we all know she's not one to piss off. But then . . . BUT THEN it was like How To Train Your Dragon: Bad Ass Style. I was hooked from that point on. I understand the hype y'all, it just took me some time to jump onboard. Manon deserves all the talk and then some.

You guys all know how I'm team Chaol, right? If you're not, check out this and consider yourself informed. That being said, my heart breaks for Dorian, it really does. He's this great guy and I've always thought this. I love him, but not like I love Chaol. There's just so much bad stuff that happens to him in this book and at the end, I nearly lost my shit. I'm worried for him. I am terrified for him, actually. I don't know how Sarah can do something like to not only him but to us, her readers. How could you do this?!

There's so much that happens in this book. To all the characters, but Celaena is where it's at. She is training with this d-bag, Rowan, trying to shift into her Fae side and tap into her powers. I wanted to throw a few punches in Rowan's face but oh my gosh, did he grow on me. He also grew on Celaena. Let me backpedal a little here. He's a Prince, a cousin of Celaena and currently working for Maeve in a blood oath. A blood oath is forever and there is no betraying her. That being said, a bond forms between these two and he makes me swoon. In a completely different way from Chaol but man, if there ever is a time (and I'm hoping there will be) where Chaol and Rowan are in a room together, I may explode from too much swooning one in place.

If you haven't read this series, I don't know why you're here. You're ruining yourself for the first two books, you truly are. Do yourself a favor and close out of this now. No, don't do that - go buy the first two books then come back here and continue reading. If you've read the first two books, I already like you, but get ready for excitement. This book is amazing. The next book promises so us so much epic . . . everything. This next year is going to be absolutely torture. I'm not even exaggerating. We need a support group for something like this . . . making us wait a year to read more.

Thank you so, so, SO much to Bloomsbury for allowing me the chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

If you love Sarah, which I'm sure you do, check back here in December as we'll be featuring her during our Author Spotlight with a giveaway, of course!

Thank you for the fantastic giveaway! I already have a copy of Heir of Fire (not signed) on its way to me, but if I were to win, I'd die for a signed Crown of Midnight copy!

  5. I don't believe there's any spoilers from that but I put the warning just in case I may have slipped with something. I like to warn people, just in case, but when you review a series, it's nearly impossible not to have spoilers from the previous books, you know? I do try avoid any spoilers of the book I'm reviewing (if I do put them, I hide them).

Thank you & good luck! :)

  7. I don't blame you. For series I love (like this one) or books I'm anticipating, I avoid spoilers because I don't want to know ANYTHING. I hope you love it, though.
