Kat Caruso wishes her brain had a return policy, or at least a complaint hot-line. The defective organ is constantly distracted, terrible at statistics, and absolutely flooded with inappropriate thoughts about her boyfriend’s gorgeous best friend, Alec…who just so happens to be her brand new math tutor. Who knew nerd was so hot?

Kat usually goes through tutors like she does boyfriends—both always seem to bail when they realize how hopeless she is. It’s safer for her heart to keep everyone at arm’s reach. But Alec is always stepping just a little too close.

Alec Stone should not be fantasizing about Kat. She’s adorable, unbelievably witty, and completely off limits. He’d never stab his best friend in the back…

But when secrets are revealed, the lines of loyalty are blurred. To make it count, Alec must learn messy human emotions can’t be solved like a trigonometry function. And Kat has to trust Alec may be the first guy to want her for who she is, and not in spite of it.

Y'all, I'm so sad. I wanted to love this, I really wanted to love this but it just wasn't in the stars. There was nothing special about this book. Nothing at all. If it weren't for the love interest, Alec Stone, I would've probably DNFed this book. And that makes me sad.

My biggest issue, I think, was with the main character, Kat. I didn't like her and I found her annoying most of the time. There were a few times when she was interacting with Alec that I actually liked her but that was only a handful of times (she interacts with him far more than a handful but most annoyed me, too). The story was so . . . unoriginal and there wasn't anything special added to it. Don't get me wrong, I loved having Kat's learning disability being a main focus in this story as I'm friends with someone who suffers from it and I know how frustrated they can get but it still didn't make me want to like her, at all.

Alec was my kind of guy. He's nerdy, he's smart, he's got a wicked personality and he knows how to treat a woman right. I feel like there are guys out there like Alec but they're just so hard to find. Do I feel like he could do better? Yes and no. They work together, Kat and Alec but because of my dislike for Kat I'd like to say yes but that's just me. Actually, I seem to be in the minority here with not enjoying this book. Reviews I've gone through since finishing this book have all been positive so I'm not sure what I'm missing with this book.

I wanted to say I wouldn't continue wanting to read the next book but that's a lie because it's Max and Lea, both of whom interest me immensely. I'm going to give the next book a shot but I don't think I'll be a lenient as I was with this one.

I'm not a contemporary fan but I've found myself really enjoying contemporary in the New Adult form, not the Young Adult genre. The premise of this book sounded like it would be a lot of fun and it had potential but the writing, the voices, the characters, the story - it never quite reached it's full potential.

I want to thank HarperCollins for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
