The Dark World by Cara Lynn Shultz Review

Paige Kelly is used to weird--in fact, she probably corners the market on weird, considering that her best friend, Dottie, has been dead since the 1950s. But when a fire demon attacks Paige in detention, she has to admit that things have gotten out of her league.

Luckily, the cute new boy in school, Logan Bradley, is a practiced demon slayer-and he isn't fazed by Paige's propensity to chat with the dead. Suddenly, Paige is smack in the middle of a centuries-old battle between warlocks and demons, learning to fight with a magic sword so that she can defend herself. And if she makes one wrong move, she'll be pulled into the Dark World, an alternate version of our world that's overrun by demons-and she might never make it home.

So I have this habit, you can be the judge if it’s a good or bad one, where I don’t read the description of some books when they’re recommended to me by friends. I just take their word on the fact that it was amazing and just read it. It’s kind of awesome because you have no idea what you’re about to get in to and you’re surprised to find out what this book entails. This is one of those books; I was told it was amazing by a friend and automatically added it to my list. The reason I do this so blindly is because I’ve never once been steered wrong – each book any of my friends (whose book opinions I trust) recommends, I just read it and have come out loving it. So if it’s been working, there’s no point in changing my ways, right?

Dark World is no exception. This book completely and utterly blew me away after sucking me in, making me fall in love, breaking my heart and fall all over again. A book filled with ghosts and demons and warlocks, oh my!

I can not say enough great things about Paige. She is something special. Not only is her personality one I'd want in a friend but she's got an incredibly strong head on those shoulders of hers. And she's got a lost resting on those shoulders. But she's about to take on so much more when she finds out she's been thrust in to this world full of terrible demons (and really, who knows what else). She's spunky, which I absolutely love and she was a blast getting to know. I can't wait to see more of her in book two, especially with the way that this book ended. You would think someone who reads a lot of books in series, like me, would get used to these cliffhangers but they get me each freaking time.

Now, the same friend that really pushed me to read this book has staked her claim on Logan and I totally get it. This is the guy that all girls want. Not only is he good looking but he's the type you'd want to bring home to meet your parents. He is a good guy. But he's a good guy with skeletons in his closet. And I love him, do not get me wrong, I really, really love him but the one guy in this book who stole all of my attention, even for the short time we saw his was Ajax. I am in love with him and I need more of him. My poor little heart is worried sick over him. Ajax is definitely a jokester, his personality just makes you smile. So here I am, marking my claim on him because he gives me all the feels.

I have been trying to write this review for close a month now, and it just sucks. Not the book; it far from sucks, believe me, but I just can't get the words right. If I did, this review would be a book in itself and no one wants to read this. I will say this. I loved, loved, LOVED this book and I'm literally begging for the next book. I devoured it in basically one sitting (food and bathroom breaks excluded). I loved all the characters, the story, the world, just everything and I need more. This is a perfect book for YA paranormal fans. You'll devour it, I'm sure!

Thank you so much to Harlequin Teen for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review!
