Maggie Carpenter is ready for a change— and to leave her ordinary life in South Carolina behind. But when she accepts a scholarship to the International School in London, a university attended by the privileged offspring of diplomats and world leaders, Maggie might get more than she bargained for. This was such a cute read. Definitely for a more mature audience but it's not as graphic as a lot of New Adult novels I read so I do feel like it's rather safe for even some younger ones (I'm talking 15/16 maybe). It was rather sizzling as there were many scenes of heavy making out but it was all a tease.
When Maggie meets Hugh, a twentysomething British guy, she finds herself living the life she always wanted. Suddenly she’s riding around the city in a Ferrari, wearing borrowed designer clothes and going to the hottest clubs. The only problem? Another guy, the one she can’t seem to keep her hands off of.
Half French, half Lebanese, and ridiculously wealthy, Samir Khouri has made it clear he doesn’t do relationships. He’s the opposite of everything Maggie thought she wanted…and he’s everything she can’t resist. Torn between her dream guy and the boy haunting her dreams, Maggie has to fight for her own happy ending. In a city like London, you never know where you stand, and everything can change in the blink of an eye.
This is a New Adult romance recommended for readers 17 and up.
“I See London is fun, sexy, and kept me completely absorbed.” – Katie McGarry, author of Crash Into You
Maggie is attending the International School in London and that right there is enough to make me jealous. I would've loved to attend school in London and especially a school like this? So many different cultures coming together in one smaller school each year? Fascinating as hell. I was glad to see that she became involved with a British guy. After reading my last international book and she had a love triangle with two other Americans, it made me disappointed.
But not only was she involved with a British man (and I say man because he was almost 10 years older than her) but she also was fiercely attracted to a Half French, half Lebanese man who was definitely one of the biggest players on campus. Both of these guys are insanely rich but one is family money while Hugh's (our British man) is all earned by owning a bar. He drives a ref Ferrari, I mean, can't get much better than that, right?
Clearly, I have a favorite love interest, as I'm sure most people would but both guys are great in their own way. One is the safe choice while the other is absolutely not. But safe is also looked upon as boring. What nineteen year old wants to stay with boring? Especially one who is trying leave that life behind in South Carolina.
So the whole book isn't about her insanely crazy love triangle but about her finding herself and also dealing with her father issues. She forms an interesting and weird friendship with the Ice Queen, Fleur, and therefore goes out dancing with the same group as Samir (bad boy love interest). It's kind of sad because every time you think she's stepping in the right direction on becoming the person she wants to be, something will happen to knock her back. Where her father is concerned, you just want to hug her because it's not fair what she has to go through. She was abandoned by her mother and then her father hardly has time for her. It's been well over a year since she's seen him and every time he calls, it's so choppy and he usually loses service that they never have a full conversation.
This book is definitely a roller coaster of emotions and feelings as you feel for Maggie but then it turns around and has you fanning yourself with how hot it's gotten. If you're a fan of New Adult contemporary, this is definitely something you should give a chance (I'll admit, the cover definitely turned me off but after checking out the description and other reviews, I decided to give it a shot).
Thank you so much to Jessica Estep for allowing me the chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review!
