Now that Fiona Tarsis and her twin brother, Jonah, are no longer beasts, they set out to find their mother, with the help of Bowen and a former neighbor, Jacqui. Heading for a safe settlement rumored to be in Wyoming, they plan to spread the cure along the way--until they are attacked by raiders. Luckily, they find a new ally in Kevin, who saves them and leads them to safety in his underground shelter. But the more they get to know Kevin, the more they suspect he has ties to the raiders. He also seems to know too many details about Jacqui and her family—details that could endanger them all. For the raiders will do anything they can to destroy the cure that would bring an end to their way of life. Bethany Wiggins’s reimagining of our world after an environmental catastrophe won’t fail to stun readers.
If you have NOT read Stung, please read with caution. There are some spoilers that were unavoidable. Proceed with caution . . .
I was hesitant at first. This book isn't from Fiona's point of view and I didn't realize that. I guess the description didn't lead me to believe it wasn't from her POV either so I was a little surprised when I started reading and it wasn't her. It took some getting used to but once I did, I really enjoyed this book. I'm not sure if I liked it more than the first book or not but regardless, it's close.
We know, from the first book, that there is a cure but the problem is getting it to everyone else or even making it known that it exists. But for Jacqui it's about finding her older brother, Devon and bringing him back safely to their family, where he belongs. But nothing is as easy as it sounds, right?
Besides my shock of it not being told from Fiona, this book took me by the hand and didn't let go until the end. Even then, it never really wanted to let go. I wish there was another book because I'd really like to see a certain character with a HEA (happily ever after) but at the same time, I'm okay with how it ended.
If you loved Stung, you'll definitely enjoy this. You'll be sad, most likely, like me about meeting a new voice but you'll quickly adjust and just dive right in. There's a ton of action, a very cute, beautiful romance threaded in there along with the romance we already saw happened between Fi and Bowen (love his name, btw) plus also a friendship you may have wished was more (or maybe it was just me). *highlight to view spoiler* When I first started reading this and even a bit of the way in, I really was thinking Jacqui and Jonah might've have eventually become an item and I was totally on board with that. Sadly, this was not the case... *end spoiler*
It's taken me awhile to write this review because I haven't been able to figure out how to put in to words my feelings for this book. And while this isn't a very detailed review, it's a book I definitely think you should read. Heck, I don't even think you need to read the first one to enjoy this (though I think you should). It does recap a lot of what you read from the first book nicely. But you won't fall in love with all the characters the way those who have read both. I recommend falling.
Thank you so much to Bloomsbury for sending me a copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review. Also, thank you so much for inviting me to be a part of the blog tour!
This one sounds interesting, I might have to check this series after all!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely do. I was surprised with how much I loved it. It's a duology so there's only two books, so not too bad!
