Split Second by Kasie West Review

Split Second by Kasie West
(Pivot Point, #2)
Release Date: February 11, 2014
Publisher: HarperTeen; 368 pages
Life can change in a split second.

Addie hardly recognizes her life since her parents divorced. Her boyfriend used her. Her best friend betrayed her. She can’t believe this is the future she chose. On top of that, her ability is acting up. She’s always been able to Search the future when presented with a choice. Now she can manipulate and slow down time, too . . . but not without a price.

When Addie’s dad invites her to spend her winter break with him, she jumps at the chance to escape into the Norm world of Dallas, Texas. There she meets the handsome and achingly familiar Trevor. He’s a virtual stranger to her, so why does her heart do a funny flip every time she sees him? But after witnessing secrets that were supposed to stay hidden, Trevor quickly seems more suspicious of Addie than interested in her. And she has an inexplicable desire to change that.

Meanwhile, her best friend, Laila, has a secret of her own: she can restore Addie’s memories . . . once she learns how. But there are powerful people who don’t want to see this happen. Desperate, Laila tries to manipulate Connor, a brooding bad boy from school—but he seems to be the only boy in the Compound immune to her charms. And the only one who can help her.

As Addie and Laila frantically attempt to retrieve the lost memories, Addie must piece together a world she thought she knew before she loses the love she nearly forgot . . . and a future that could change everything.

If you have NOT read Pivot Point, please read with caution. There are some spoilers that were unavoidable. Proceed with caution . . .

Pivot Point was a bit of a surprise for me; I didn't expect to like it as much as I did but boy oh boy did I fall hard for that book. When I found out there would be a second one, I was waiting impatiently for the day it came out. I was lucky enough to be sent a review copy and I may have danced around the house like a little girl, squealing like she just won a meet & greet for One Direction or something (oh yeah, I just went there). And I guess I didn't realize this book was told in dual POV's (the first one wasn't, right?) and I didn't think I'd like it but oh my gosh, was I wrong. Seeing this book in both Addie and Laila's POV's was just amazing. Because now we had not one guy to love (Hello, Trevor) but now we also got the delicious, mysterious Connor. And OMG did I love him. I will be ashamed to admit this but I may have loved him more than our good ole southern boy, Trevor.

But enough gushing . . . for now, let's talk about this book. I don't think I could turn the pages quick enough and then I was sad when I got to the end and realized I read this book way too fast. Because once you get the end, there is no more. These books are done and that makes me very sad. I'm sure you'll be sad, too. But a satisfied sad.

Let me start with Trevor and Addie. We know how the first book ended and how shocked all of us were to find out none of this amazing romance between these two ever happened. Then to make matters worse, Laila erased Addie's memory so she didn't even remember the possibility of ever loving Trevor. There was an instant connection between these two the first time they met in this book. There's so much struggle between these two and while I wanted to pull my hair out, it made the book that much better. Getting a reaction out of the reader is what should happen so the fact that it did, makes the book that much sweeter (even if I wanted to throw it from my frustrations).

Laila and Connor frustrated me, too but in a totally different way. These two are so damn interesting as individual characters but then you throw them together and they truly are something special. They are both very strong individual's who are a bit . . . hmm, what's the word . . . hot headed? Not exactly what I'm looking for but they are their own person and when you gradually see the attraction between them growing, you get antsy. Literally, you'll find yourself shaking with anticipation because these two are seriously perfect in every way.

There isn't a second in this book where these characters are not in danger but it never once slows them down. They could lose everything in a blink of an eye but they don't care. I absolutely love that about them, all of them. It all could end today and they still live like it's not.

I was blown away by Pivot Point and I was dying with anticipation for Split Second. It totally lived up to my expectations and then some. I'm so happy with this book and like I said, I'm only sad there's no more. These characters are just too perfect and I will miss them.

Thank you so much to Allison from HarperTeen for sending me a copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review.

  1. I'm so glad u liked it 😊 I've been wanting to read 'Split Second' since the moment I finished 'Pivot Point', I was unsure of whether it would be as good, but by your review, I think it will be. I can't wait for the dual-POV as well as Connor
