Clear Your Shelf Giveaway Hop

This giveaway is hosted by I Am A Reader, Not A Writer. It's the beginning of a new year and what better to start off fresh than get rid of some books that are just collecting dust on my bookshelf? What I have for one lucky winner is a mystery box of 20+ books (I think there's 27 but I can't remember). Most of the are Young Adult with maybe a few Middle Grade books thrown into the mix. It's a mix of ARCs and finished copies.

This is only open to US residents (mainly because of the cost to send something like this internationally will be out of this world expensive). The winner will have 48 hours to respond to their email before we choose another winner. Good luck and contest ends at 11:59 PM EST on January 10, 2014.

  1. Most of my books are ebooks but i have recently went through the paperbacks i had and got rid of a bunch

    ReplyDelete
  2. I probably need to do that but I usually don't! I buy books that I really love and then I just reread them over and over again! :)

    ReplyDelete
  3. At least twice a year. If I don't do it more, I literally end up with books all over in stacks on,by floor and it becomes a mess. Even tho I just got a new bookshelf, I still don't have extra room! Giveaways help a lot too, I love giving away mystery boxes lol. Doing one now if you wanna stop by and enter!

  5. Never! I am an English/language arts teacher by training (and just received my teaching license - yay!), so all my books will eventually go toward stocking my classroom library. :)

    ReplyDelete
  14. When I read a book and know I won't read it again I give it to a friend or I donate it. That way I only keep the books that I read again and again and that I love! :)

    ReplyDelete
  15. Probably every month--but I sometimes forget to do it now and then.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I cull my shelves about once a year. If I have the time I have friends over who also do the same and we swap books and then donate the leftovers.

    ReplyDelete
  17. When it comes to cleaning out my bookshelf... it depends on my mood or my situation. For example: I had to get rid of some of my books before I moved back home, after graduating college, cause there were just too many and I already read a good chunk of them anyways. Recently, though, I did give some of them to a good friend of mine for Christmas cause I knew she'd love them as much as I did. c: So... yeah!

    ReplyDelete
  18. I go through them at least once every 2 weeks to a month. Thanks for the giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Not very often... But I have been trying to go through and get rid of some books!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I only did that once. I donated a giant box of books to a book thrift shop when I moved out of my mom's house a few years back

    ReplyDelete
  21. I used to hang onto them for too long, but moving every 1 1/2 years or so has made me purge more frequently ;)

    ReplyDelete
  22. Probably like once per year.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I have only 3 shelves of books and would not like to part with any at this time

    ReplyDelete
  24. I used to go through them about twice a year but now as I read them I get rid of them.
    Thanks for the awesome giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Pretty often. I'm always buying books, so I have to make space for them! It's either that or buy more bookshelves. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  26. I go through my books a time or two during the year, but I find it SO hard to let them go... instead, I just buy more bookshelves :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. It's hard to say if I would re-read them, would have to depend on the book

    ReplyDelete
  28. I do it probably once a month when I go to 2nd & Charles. But I always come home with 20 new books. I have a habit of picking up books and then getting home and going "why did i get that?" Thank you for the giveaway! Happy New Year.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  38. First-I totally love your blog page!! The logo and everything is soooo pretty! I'm still trying to figure mine out with clipart, but don't have the cool pics you have to choose from!! I am horrible about cleaning books. I'm not a hoarder by nature. On the contrary, my family freaks out whenever I spring clean-about once a month. But, books are sacred to me! So, when I can participate in blog hops, that is my time to clean out my shelf ;)

    ReplyDelete
  39. I didn't even have a bookshelf or any books until recently. So I haven't cleared it out yet. Although I did send a girl a book that I had 2 copies of. Thank you so much. Happy New Year!

  43. Oohh, that's a good question... Before a few months ago, I almost NEVER cleaned my shelves out. But since blogging, I've been getting so many books! I definitely need to do a clean-out soon!

    Thanks for an awesome giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I did it a couple of times this year because I had to move my book shelves, but usually once a year. The previous year I had a ton of library books and this year I've made the move to digital so it hasn't been so much the issue it once was.

Now the books on my shelves are pretty much all keepers!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Maybe once a year. I have so many books that I just can't part with.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I do it twice a year and I donate them to the local library!

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  48. Every once in a while i have a huge stack of books I won't ever read again.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Its been so long since I have made time to read that I have no books in my bookshelves. That is why, now that I have time to read, that I am entering these giveaways.

  60. I probably clear just one book from my shelf a couple of years ago I should probably start to clear it off soon from books that I just didin't get into thanks for the great giveaway!

I haven't gotten rid of books is a long time! Thank you so much for this wonderful giveaway! :)

    ReplyDelete
  64. I go through my shelves and give away books about 5 to 6 times a year except for those I fave committed to read/review.

    ReplyDelete
  65. When I move, I always have to go through my books, but I normally find that most of those I have, I want to keep. This is because if I read a book I dislike so much I'll never, ever want to give it a second chance, I give it away almost immediately. There are few such books, but those that are that bad need to go, since I cherish my books and need all the space I can get.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I go through my books and give some away every year!

    ReplyDelete
  67. Well...I really should sometime, but I never really have. I've got a whole TON of books though :)

    ReplyDelete
  68. I do that maybe twice a year. I barely started building up my book collections a few years ago. A lot of them I'm still trying to finish.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Well, I just did it before moving cross-country and again when I got here and realized my local bookstore has an awesome trade-in policy. Otherwise, I do it a couple times a year.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Not too often. I only get rid
of a book if I really didn't like it. I love my collection of books.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I don't think I've ever pared down my shelves (not since I was a kid). The few times I've moved, everything went with me. This is not to say that I *shouldn't*, just that I *haven't*. Man, oh, man -- I really should!

    ReplyDelete
  72. I do it a couple of times a year.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Not as often as I should. Once or twice a year.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Twice a year the library where I work has a large book sale for books that have been 'weeded' from the collection or donated by patrons. I usually take this opportunity to 'weed' my home bookshelves. I like knowing that the books I donate find a new home and don't end up being shredded.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Usually about 3 times a year and donate them to the library.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Almost constantly...if I don't love a book or series, I usually try to find it a good home...

    Thanks for the amazing giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  77. Normally the wife and I will do a good shelf-cleaning twice a year though we do sometimes trade in books faster depending on if we like them or not.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Not nearly as often as the Hubby thinks I should. I try every couple of months. It's been a little easier with the smart phones and electronic readers as I am able to get digital copies of some items.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Usually just when it comes to my mind. It tends to happen when I don't have any books on my bookshelves that I haven't read.
    Thanks for the giveaway!

I usually go through my books every other month or so. I'll list them on YA Book Exchange, sell them at Half-Price or do giveaways =)

    ReplyDelete
  81. never (: I like to see how many books I have. I love my growing collection

    ReplyDelete
  82. It can take me awhile before I get rid of anything. I'm a pack rat.

    ReplyDelete
  83. I normaly trade my books in to get new ones!! thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  84. I go through them a couple times a year or if I need more room.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Not as often as I should:) When space is an issue! Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  86. I do that when I start to run short on spending money.......

    ReplyDelete
  87. Usually, I'll go through my books quarterly. When I do weed through my books, the ones that get the boot are usually newer books that didn't pan out quite right.

  88. Erin Frances GundersonJanuary 6, 2014 at 12:12 AM

I pretty much never get rid of books. This leads to me constantly acquiring more shelves.

    ReplyDelete
  89. It takes me a while to get rid of anything...especially books :)

Thank you for the chance to win!

    ReplyDelete
  90. I don't do it very often. However, I did go through them all and get rid of some last year.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Never. I either get rid of the book after reading it or I am going to read it - this includes some children's books too because I will read it one last time to one of my children before passing it onto a friend with a younger child.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Thanks for the giveaway. I go through my shelves about every 4 months but I always hold onto way more than I should. :)

    ReplyDelete
  93. workingforthemandroidJanuary 6, 2014 at 8:40 AM

I can't let go of books once they've hit my shelves proper, which I realize is ridiculous. If I plan to give them away, the book never makes it to a bookshelf.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Ha! It's usually an option (I have 5) but I honestly don't know where I'd put another shelf. :P

    ReplyDelete
  95. Usually once a year, when I spring clean.

    ReplyDelete
  96. At least once a year - more often if I'm adding a lot! Thanks for this amazing giveaway - I would love to win!

    ReplyDelete
  97. two or three times a year.

    ReplyDelete
  98. I do through them like twice a year. I donate the ones I don't read to the library. Thanks for this great giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  99. I did it last year when I had to move cross-country.

    ReplyDelete
  100. About once a year

    ReplyDelete
  101. Not as often as I should :/ Usually only when there's a bookdrive or some other charity specifically requesting them.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Umm... Never lol

    ReplyDelete
  103. Well, kind of a long story, so to shorten it: I'm just now beginning to restock my bookshelf. And my Nook...impossible. lol!!

    ReplyDelete
  104. Unfortunately....NEVER!! I never seem to be willing to give up and just admit to myself that I'm just NOT going to read that book I got in 2002 and have carted around in at least two moves since then! However, I did recently tell my husband that I just HAVE to do it soon, since I've got hundreds of books, many of them are in boxes (or stacked precariously high next to my bed) because clearly I don't have room for all of them on shelves, and to top it off my reading tastes have changed so much starting about 2 years ago that at least 90% of them really are ones I won't read any time soon. Now I've just gotta follow through on that promise (yikes)....

    ReplyDelete
  105. Never. I have tried a few times, but I always end up just putting books back on my shelf. I am terrible at parting with them. They are like "my Precious!"

    ReplyDelete
  106. I try to go through them once or twice a year.

    ReplyDelete
  107. I do! All the time :) Around every 4-6 months I get rid of (give away or sell to my local bookstore) around 50 books so I can keep my shelf full of only my favorites and re-readers :) I know some people have a had time doing this... but I do it really easily! lol I guess theres something wrong with my abilities to be sentimental!

    ReplyDelete
  108. I rarely go through my books to give them away. I do plan to start going through my books in the future, though!

    ReplyDelete
  109. I don't go through my bookshelves as often as I should in truth. I really need to make it a monthly thing I do. Thanks for the giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  110. During this giveaway haha :)

    ReplyDelete
  111. Every book as soon as I read it, is passed on. As I tend to collect a series before reading it, if I start it and am not blown away, I pull the whole series to give away unless I'm pretty positive that I'll change my mind

    ReplyDelete
  112. I go through it every year. Share them with friends and keep the great ones!

    ReplyDelete
  113. I rarely go through my books.
    Thanks for the giveaway :)

    ReplyDelete
  114. I try to at least once a year.
Thanks for the chance to win!

    ReplyDelete
  115. I have a really hard time getting rid of books. I feel like they are part of my family.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Hardly ever! I sometimes pass along books to friends, but it is really hard for me to part with books, even text books!

    ReplyDelete
  117. When I moved last Spring I had to get ride of about 90% of my books! It was a sad day. But at least I have a few good ones with me. :)

    ReplyDelete
  118. At least once a year. Thanks for the giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  119. I tend to hoard my books, so I rarely go through them to get rid of any. Maybe once a year if I'm lucky. Thanks for the giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  120. a couple of times a year. Thanks for the giveaway!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  121. probably once a year

    ReplyDelete
  122. Maybe like once or twice a year. :)

    ReplyDelete
  123. Maybe once every 5 years. Lol.
Thank you for sharing yours. :)

    ReplyDelete
  124. It usually takes a move for me to go through my books.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Not as often as i should i just recently got rid of a whole box though.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Never! I'm an avid e-reader so my bookshelf is unlimited besides I hoard so wouldn't get rid of anything anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  127. It's rare when I get rid of my books, but when I do it's because I have multiple copies :)

    ReplyDelete
  128. I don't purge very often but recently I did go through and donated two boxes to my local library for their books sale.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Never because I love all my books!

    ReplyDelete
  130. Not very often actually, about once a year I think maybe less.
