They thought they had escaped. They were wrong.I want to thank Little, Brown Books for Young Readers for approaching me about being a part of this blog tour. Altered was one of the best books I read last year and Erased was pretty fantastic, too. Most blog tours include a review, interview, guest post or excerpt but Little, Brown wanted to do something different. We were to come up with ONE question that we're dying to ask Jenn about these books. It was a lot harder than you think - especially to come up with one question that is good enough (and without spoilers). Alas, I think I managed . . .
After fleeing the Branch with Sam, Cas, and Nick, Anna is trying to make sense of the memories resurfacing from her old life. At the same time, she's learning how to survive in hiding, following Sam's rules: Don't draw attention to yourself. Always carry a weapon. Know your surroundings. Watch your back.
Then a figure from Anna's childhood reappears. Is it a Branch setup, or could it be the reunion Anna has hoped for? Uncertain of where her loyalties lie, Anna must fight to learn the truth -- before she is betrayed again. Ultimately, the answers hinge on one question: What was the real reason her memories were erased?
Jennifer Rush delivers a thrilling sequel to Altered in a novel packed with mysteries, lies, and surprises that are sure to keep readers guessing until the last page is turned.
How difficult was it to write not just one guy who the readers found likeable but writing FOUR guys who were all equally likeable (and drool-able, totally not a word but that’s fine)?
It was really hard to make them distinct, so I tried to give each character a defining characteristic. Every person I know in real life has a characteristic that sticks out. For instance, my son is good at throwing out random facts. My husband is hilarious. My daughter is sassy!
As for writing characters that are likable --- I try not to think about that when writing. I think it's hard to write someone every reader will like. That doesn't happen in real life, and it shouldn't happen in your writing. I just try to stick true to who the character is and hope that people respond well.
About the Author:
I suppose the easiest way to do this is to start at the beginning.
I was born in a tiny town in Michigan, right on the shoreline of Lake Michigan. I always said I'd leave here. But I haven't. Not yet. I have a love/hate relationship with Michigan. I love the spring and summer, and even autumn, but I loathe winters. And I loathe being cold. And I loathe driving slow.
Some of the basics
I'm 30. A mother of two. A wife to one. I like pens. And books. And photographs. And Peeps (the chicks!). And bad boys (in fiction)(but also life)(but I would never marry one).
More exciting details
I have fallen out/off of a moving vehicle twice. Once when I was five and didn't want to go to the babysitters (it was more like I lept from the vehicle). And again when I was fourteen and was dared to do it. No broken bones, but a lot of scrapes and I swear I'll never do it again. Unless I absolutely have to.
I've never been to a concert. Does that make me lame?
I knew how to drive by the time I was twelve.
Despite the fact that I live close to one of the best freshwater beaches, I rarely swim because of an irrational fear of dark water.
The first book I ever wrote was about vampires, naturally.
Be on the look out for my review of Erased tomorrow!

Again, a HUGE thank you to Little, Brown for allowing me to be a part of this blog tour and huge thank you to Jennifer Rush for writing such amazing books!
If you could go on a date with only one of the guys, which one would it be?
ReplyDeleteWhat is or what do you want your next book (after the Aletered series) to be about?
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this giveaway. I'm a huge fan of Altered and Jennifers. And am so excited for Erased. I would like to ask Jenn, would she choose to have the books turned into a movie or TV show? Thank you so much.
ReplyDeleteI'm a HUGE Altered fan! I would have asked what her inspiration for the series came from? Was it a dream one night? Just something that developed over time in her head? What brought the story to her?
ReplyDeleteI would ask Jenn if all 4 boys will have love interests?
ReplyDeleteIf her memory was erased why is it she remembers some men?
ReplyDeleteFirst of all I am SO jealous that you got an Erased ARC! Tell me your secret C:
ReplyDeleteThe question I'd ask would be if she intends to write a book for each of the characters love interests, that is, if they get love interests C;
YAY for Erased! I'd ask Jen if she would write a book for Trev, if she ever had that opportunity. *wink wink*
ReplyDeleteAlyssa @ The Eater of Books!
The answer is yes. A MILLION TIMES YES. :-)
ReplyDeleteI definitely want to! It's not a definite yes or no at this point, since my publisher would obviously have to give it a thumbs up first. :-) I'm crossing my fingers!
ReplyDeleteYes. :-) Eventually! If each boy gets a book.
ReplyDeleteAltered was a book that came out of nowhere. That is, I can't trace it back to one source. I can say it was definitely inspired by the Bourne series. :-)
ReplyDeleteWhile I think it would be awesome to see Altered make it to the big screen, I think it's better suited for TV. Plus, you get lots more of it if it's a TV show!
ReplyDeleteI think I'd like to either continue writing in the Altered world or write a YA fantasy.
ReplyDeleteGood question! While Nick is my favorite, I don't think he'd be much fun on a date. Cas or Trev would probably be the most fun!
ReplyDeleteIf you could've asked Jenn one question about Altered/Forged/Erased - what would it have been?
ReplyDeleteWho was the hardest to write?
My thoughts exactly. Thank you for answering. Now lets get this TV show made everyone. ;)
ReplyDeleteHow about you go on a date with Cas and I'll take Trev ;) lol
