Some things are worth waiting for…

Traveling thousands of miles from home to enter college is the only way nineteen-year-old Avery Morgansten can escape what happened at the Halloween party five years ago—an event that forever changed her life. All she needs to do is make it to her classes on time, make sure the bracelet on her left wrist stays in place, not draw any attention to herself, and maybe—please God—make a few friends, because surely that would be a nice change of pace. The one thing she didn’t need and never planned on was capturing the attention of the one guy who could shatter the precarious future she’s building for herself.

Some things are worth experiencing…

Cameron Hamilton is six feet and three inches of swoon-worthy hotness, complete with a pair of striking blue eyes and a remarkable ability to make her want things she believed were irrevocably stolen from her. She knows she needs to stay away from him, but Cam is freaking everywhere, with his charm, his witty banter, and that damn dimple that’s just so… so lickable. Getting involved with him is dangerous, but when ignoring the simmering tension that sparks whenever they are around each other becomes impossible, he brings out a side of her she never knew existed.

Some things should never be kept quiet…

But when Avery starts receiving threatening emails and phone calls forcing her to face a past she wants silenced, she’s has no other choice but to acknowledge that someone is refusing to allow her to let go of that night when everything changed. When the devastating truth comes out, will she resurface this time with one less scar? And can Cam be there to help her or will he be dragged down with her?

And some things are worth fighting for…

Due to sexual content this book is recommended for readers 17 and older.
So if you haven't been able to tell, I'm a really big fan of Jennifer Armentrout's writing - whether it be Young Adult, New Adult or Adult, hell, she could probably write anything and I'm going to read it. I've had this book since it was released as self-published but I was just so behind on everything else that I never had a chance to read it. She got this series picked up with an imprint of HarperCollins, William Morrow and so I bought that, too (told you, big fan here). Since I finally had a break in my reviewing schedule I devoured this book.

Avery has a past she's trying to escape; she's trying to start a new life in a new place and far away from the horror she endured when she was only fourteen years old. But thinking the distance from Texas and West Virginia would've been enough, she has no idea how wrong she is. For most of this book we all assume we know what happened to her but we're not sure because she never comes out and says it. There's hints dropped all over the place and while we assume the worst we also hope that it's not the case.

New Adult has become my thing lately; not just because of the more mature scenes that these books have but just the characters, their age, their situations just seem a lot more like my every day life and my friends lives rather than Young Adult. Does this mean I'm going to stop reading YA, certainly not, but I will be keeping an eye out for more NA books to read. But I'm convinced no one can write NA better than Jennifer. Though most of us would argue not many people can write, period, better than Jen.

Everyone's obsessed with Cam and I can totally see why. He's a player, or a reformed player but underneath all that, he really is a great guy. His family is a family I want to be around and his friends, while your typical college males, are really great friends. Ollie is a hoot while Jase is a mystery I'm dying to figure out. And tell me, how many people have considered getting a pet tortoise now after reading this book? Yeah but I'd totally name mine Michelangelo, as he's clearly the best ninja turtle, ever. Just saying.

This girl has got spunk, y'all. Avery is a firecracker and it totally fits since she's a redhead and all. But she is quick with her retorts while someone like me, I would think of the perfect thing to dish back but probably a few minutes after and it would've lost it's appeal. To think that quickly on her toes, oh, I'm envious. What I'm not envious of is her past. Not just what I talked about earlier but her family. While we see how perfect of a family Cam has, we also see how messed up of a family Avery has. A mom who is more concerned about her status and how everyone else will view them over the safety and protection of her own child. It's sickening knowing people like this actually exist.

This book was fun; it had me laughing more times than I can remember. This book almost had me in tears from the pain (emotional) of these characters but it also had me cheering for when things went the way they should've. If you're looking for a quick, sexy, fun read - this is definitely a book you want to pick up. This is a book that will have the characters lingering around in my head for days and seriously, who am I to complain over that?
