(A Little Too Far, #1)
Release Date: September 17, 2013
Publisher: William Morrow; 336 pages
Have you ever gone just a little too far?
Lexie Banks has.
Yep. She just had mind-blowing sex with her stepbrother. In her defense, she was on the rebound, and it’s more of a my-dad-happened-to-marry-a-woman-with-a-super-hot-son situation. But still, he’s been her best friend and confidant for the better part of the last few years … and is so off limits. It’s a good thing she’s leaving in two days for a year abroad in Rome.
But even thousands of miles away, Lexie can’t seem to escape trouble. Raised Catholic, she goes to confession in hopes of alleviating some of her guilt … and maybe not burning in hell. Instead, she stumbles out of the confessional and right into Alessandro Moretti, a young and very easy-on-the-eyes deacon … only eight months away from becoming a priest. Lexie and Alessandro grow closer, and when Alessandro’s signals start changing despite his vow of celibacy, she doesn’t know what to think. She’s torn between falling in love with the man she shouldn’t want and the man she can’t have. And she isn’t sure how she can live with herself either way.
Due to sexual content this book is recommended for readers 17 and older.
Holy . . . wow. I stayed up until 7 am finishing this book when I started it at 3 am. There were so many times where I told myself that I would put the book down and get some sleep but then the chapter ended and I needed more. It's been awhile since I read a book straight through the night but damn, the lack of sleep was totally worth it. It was sexy and addicting in so many ways.
Honestly, do you find it disgusting for step-siblings to fall for each other? While I can understand where some might come from I've always been curious about this. They're not related and they're forced to be around each other so much that you can't help but wonder how often something like this happens? Trent is incredibly sexy but he's also Lexie's best friend; her confident for everything. There is no one in the world that knows her the way he does and that door swings both ways. They were each other's first kiss and they swore that could never happen again. But you know what they say, never say never. After she runs into her asshole of an ex as her emotions are running wild he consoles her. What turns from her best friend being there for her turns quickly in to some seriously insanely hot kissing to all their clothes being gone and wow.
But you know how much this would screw with someone's mind. He's like family and they just had mind-blowing sex. Would you look at them with disgust? Most people would, which is sad - people need to learn not to judge so much. But thankfully, she leaves for Rome in two days where she'll have plenty of time to get her feelings in order or will she? She meets Alessandro Moretti who is an insanely gorgeous deacon whose about to change everything. You see him slowly lower his guard the more he spends time with Lexie. While won't let her call him by his first name and suddenly it's what he wants. He starts telling her about his past, which is pretty, about his messed up family situation. He's such a good guy and he's so young, one of the youngest I've seen want to become a priest. He has a good reason behind wanting to do this but the question is, is it for the right reason?
So I haven't read much New Adult but this book definitely makes me want to read more. These are characters more around my age and facing things that people my age face. While Young Adult books have characters facing the fact that they're entering the real world but New Adult has characters that are already there. Totally different feel and one I really liked. Not to mention the characters themselves are just amazing. While I'm totally and utterly in
Not only do I love these characters but the setting for this book, I mean . . . come on, Rome, hello?! It makes me want to travel more now than ever, especially there. That scene where she faces her fears of heights . . . I really felt like I was right there with her, looking over all of Rome with her (while also facing my fears of heights). It was amazing; to be able to use your imagination with the mix of the authors descriptions that just place you right inside the story, too. And while I'm not a religious person the trips to museums and the discussions of all the art was breathtaking.
I also really, really liked Lexie's voice. She made me laugh a few times and she just seemed so real. I mean, really, how many hail mary's did she have to say? ;) While I'm not usually a fan of contemporary because it feels too much like every day life (at least some that I've read) this totally took me away and made me escape my every day life. For a contemporary book to do that to me is saying a lot. And the fact that I lost sleep over finishing this book should say something else. I am so glad I decided to read this (to be honest, I wasn't sold on the cover but this is why they say don't judge a book by it's cover, right?). If you're an older reader and looking for a great New Adult book, this is one you should pick up.
