(Nephilim Rising, #1)
Release Date: September 17, 2013
Publisher: Entangled Edge; 400 pages
Between the pissed off creatures that want demon-hunter Lily Marks dead and the fallen angel who just...wants her, Lily is about ready to trade in forever for a comfy job in a cubicle farm.I love Angel and Fallen Angel books; I've put off reading a lot of them lately because it was getting tiresome reading all about the same thing, you know? But taking a break from a certain genre is sometimes all you need. I really enjoyed this book - you had some really fantastic, kick-ass characters, very steamy romance, lots of stabbing minions, drama and mystery. Though, one of what I listed lacked for me.
The fact that she and Julian are civil to one another is enough to have her thrown out of the Sanctuary, but she can't shake her not-so-angelic stalker or how he brings her dangerously close to ecstasy.
Her forbidden relationship with Julian provides the perfect fuel for suspicion when a traitor is discovered to be working within the Sanctuary. Lily quickly finds herself hunted by well, everyone.
Her only hope is to discover the real traitor before she loses everything--and she'll need Julian's help. That is, if Julian is really there to help her...and not destroy her.
Yeah, being a Nephilim isn't everything it's cracked up to be.
It wasn't hard to figure out the ending of this book. I'm not sure if it was supposed to be that obvious or not but there was really no surprise, which was a bit of a disappointment. I was hoping I was suspecting someone all along and boom, it was someone I didn't see coming. I always love those books but alas, this was not one of them. It left me a bit bummed but not enough to make me not like the book.
Julian is sexy, masculine and surprisingly loving. As a Fallen Angel, he's someone the Nephilim are supposed to kill because there are no gray areas. All Fallen Angels are bad and that's that. We all know in everything there are always gray areas; always. I'd make an exception for this
A female Nephilim is a rare thing so someone like Lily is heavily cherished, if you will. All the other, older, male Nephilim look out for her and almost considered her like the baby sister. It's kind of cute, in a way but this girl doesn't need looking out for. She is one of the greatest hunter's among all the Nephilim in the DC area. If you're wondering what Nephilim are, it's simple - they are the child of a human woman and an Angel (who either falls due to this or has already Fallen).
Michael, who up until recently thought he was your average joe looking for a career change. He had a nice job with great pay but wanted to do something different so he became a cop. Little did he know his life was about to change even more. Turns out, Michael is a lot more than just average - he's a Nephilim who never appeared in any of their records. There's a lot of mystery surrounding Michael and I really, really want to get to know him even more in future books. I feel like we've only peeled away the outer layer and there's many layers left to remove.
I can't say this is the best story I've seen from Jen but it's not bad, by any means. I definitely want to read the next book because I've fallen in love with the characters, the story is intriguing and I really want to know where the future of Nephilim stands and also where Julian stands. It is adult so younger readers, beware - it's not a story for you. Any fan of Jen's will definitely enjoy this and any fan of Angels/Fallen Angels will also enjoy.
Thank you so much to Entangled for allowing me to be a part of this blog tour. Also a big thank you for them allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review. It's always a pleasure working with you all!!!
