Last Blood by Kristen Painter Review

Last Blood by Kristen Painter
(House of Comarré, #5)
Release Date: July 30, 2013
Publisher: Orbit; 464 pages
In the final showdown between the forces of dark and light, Mal and Chrysabelle face not only Tatiana, but the ancient evil that now controls her: the Castus Sanguis. Chrysabelle gathers her friends and family around her, forming a plan to bring an end to the chaos surrounding them. But the Castus is the most powerful being they've ever come up against. Defeating such evil will require a great sacrifice from someone on the side of light.

One of them will change sides. One of them will die. No one will survive unscathed. Can Chrysabelle save those she cares about or will that love get her killed? What price is she willing to pay to draw last blood?

If you have NOT read the first four books in the House of Comarré series, please read with caution. There are some spoilers that were unavoidable. Proceed with caution . . .

I love Chrysabelle and Mal. This is no secret. With the ending of the fourth book, I was heartbroken, as most other fans were. I went into this book with so much hope but not just for these two; Kristen Painter has made me fall in love with all of her characters and I was so hoping for a happily ever after for all her characters. Dreading the deaths I knew would most definitely be coming because she is not one to shy away from killing characters. While this book was filled with much drama, death and trouble; it was a fantastic conclusion to a series I wish would never end. But alas, all great things must come to an end, right? Thankfully there will be a spinoff series and after having finished this series I am so excited for it.

Mal lost all of his love and all of his feelings for Chrysabelle; while it was very heroic of him to sacrifice himself it was the worst thing he could've done. All he viewed her as now was a food source and one he so wanted to drain. It broke my heart but at the same time it made for some entertaining moments. Because of his prominent blood lust she wasn't safe so they (she and Dominic) opted to drug him until they could find a cure or some way to protect her. He spent a good portion of this book drugged up and harmless.

Doc and Fi are in a good place, romantically, as they have just tied the knot and he is the leader of this town's pride. But you know things are about to get bad once the brother of Doc's ex-pride wife has been placed in your tribe. Especially when an ongoing investigation opens up regarding the death of his sister and places two of Doc's most trust men in jail. Things get worse when Fi's own well being is threatened and she takes comfort with Chrysabelle where she will be safe from anything and anyone.

I just can't even get over how happy I am with this book. I tried so hard to slow my reading down so I could enjoy the last book more and relish in all it was but I just couldn't slow my reading down. I needed more and I needed to know how it died. I needed to know Tatiania's fate and how that evil cow was going to kick it, if in fact, she would kick it at all. This dreadful woman seems destructible.

If you haven't started reading this series then I'm really sorry you sat here reading this whole review as there have been series spoilers that are unavoidable; especially when talking about a final book of the series. Now, there's no real spoilers involved for this individual book so if you're a fan of the series - you best get to finishing it. I know, you're probably putting it off because you don't want it to end, I understand but it's worth it. And it leaves you feeling happy and anxious for the spin off series.
