(Hourglass #3)
Release Date: August 6, 2013
Publisher: Egmont USA; 336 pages
The stakes have risen even higher in this third book in the Hourglass series.
The Hourglass is a secret organization focused on the study of manipulating time, and its members — many of them teenagers -have uncanny abilities to make time work for them in mysterious ways. Inherent in these powers is a responsibility to take great care, because altering one small moment can have devastating consequences for the past, present, and future. But some time travelers are not exactly honorable, and sometimes unsavory deals must be struck to maintain order.
With the Infinityglass (central to understanding and harnessing the time gene) at large, the hunt is on to find it before someone else does.
But the Hourglass has an advantage. Lily, who has the ability to locate anything lost, has determined that the Infinityglass isn't an object. It's a person. And the Hourglass must find him or her first. But where do you start searching for the very key to time when every second could be the last?
Thank you to Egmont USA for selling Infinityglass at San Diego Comic Con!
Infinityglass is the third and final book in the Hourglass trilogy. I absolutely adore this series. When I read Hourglass back in April 2012, I was going through a bit of a reading slump. I was so addicted to fanfiction at the time, that I was completely missing some amazing published books. Hourglass sucked me out of my slump, and blew me away. And in June 2012, when Timepiece came out, I just knew this series would go down as an all time favorite.
The Hourglass series is a trilogy about a group of people who have a paranormal gene. Majority of the character's genes are related to time. Some character's can time travel, others can do things such as read read emotions and control water elements. Each book in this series is told from a different character's point of view. Hourglass was told from Emerson's point of view, and was the story of Emerson and Michael. Timepiece was told from Kaleb's point of view. And finally, Infinityglass is told from multiple point of views. Dune, a very minor character featured in both Hourglass and Timepiece gets his story told. Along with a new character named Hallie, who actually has a connection with a character from Timepiece.
Now I am not gonna lie, I really wanted Inifnityglass to be told from Michael's point of view. I happen to really love Michael, and as I stated in my review for Timepiece I missed him and Emerson while reading Kaleb's story. But as I was reading Infinityglass, I realized that Emerson and Michael's story was pretty much over. Yes, the main plot of trying to get the evil Jack and Teague out of their lives was very much still prevalent. But that is a story line that was related to all of the characters, and it was nice to see it's conclusion told from someone who was not directly involved with him like Emerson and Kaleb.
If I could describe Dune in one word, it would be cool. He's just a very laid back and chill character. At least that's the vibe I got while reading. He's got his secrets, and it was interesting to see them unravel. Hallie, his counterpart in Infinityglass is definitely a handful. I immediately took a liking to Hallie. Hallie is the type of girl who takes what she wants, and does what she wants. She's also not afraid to get her hands dirty. Now I know some readers will probably not be a big fan of her personality. But I loved seeing her and Dune bounce off of each other.
One of the things I always enjoyed about this series is that even if you aren't a fan of sci fi you will enjoy this series. There isn't an abundance of paranormal or sci fi. The plot is easy to understand, and will not leave the reader confused. Yes, time travel is the main plot, but the relationships between the characters are just as prominent of a story line.
Lastly Infinityglass has a very short and sweet epilogue. I normally am not a big fan of epilogues, especially really long ones. But the epilogue of Infinityglass was short and to the point. I hope everyone else enjoys this series as much as I did.
