Frigid by J. Lynn Review

Frigid by J. Lynn
(Frigid, #1)
Release Date: July 15, 2013
Publisher: Spencer Hill; 240 pages
For twenty-one-year-old Sydney, being in love with Kyler isn't anything new. They'd been best friends ever since he pushed her down on the playground and she made him eat a mud pie. Somewhere over the years, she fell for him and fell hard. The big problem with that? Kyler puts the 'man' in man-whore. He's never stayed with a girl longer than a few nights, and with it being their last year in college, Syd doesn't want to risk their friendship by declaring her love.

Kyler has always put Syd on a pedestal that was too high for him to reach. To him, she's perfect and she's everything. But the feelings he has for her, he's always hidden away or focused on any other female. After all, Kyler will always be the poor boy from the wrong side of tracks, and Syd will always be the one girl he can never have.

But when they're stranded together at a posh ski resort due to a massive Nor'easter, there's nothing stopping their red-hot feelings for each other from coming to the surface. Can their friendship survive the attraction? Better yet, can they survive at all? Because as the snow falls, someone is stalking them, and this ski trip may be a life-changer in more ways than one.

Jennifer Armentrout, I mean, J. Lynn, can do no wrong in my book. Everything she writes, it just sucks you in. I started Frigid at three in the morning. My biggest mistake. I stayed awake until seven in the morning finishing it. I didn't care how tired I was or the fact that the sun was rising, I was going to finish this book because, at this time I was at a point of no return. There was no way for me to put this book down and actually sleep; my mind was on this book. I dreamed about this book and I dreamed about Kyler. A man who I wouldn't see myself ever being attracted to. A man who totally changed my opinion of him and maybe guys out there like him because of not what he is, a manwhore, but who he was within. I know, it sounds cheesy and it sounds lame but it's true.

I love love LOVE the relationship or rather the friendship between Kyler (can I just gush about how much I LOVE this name?) and Sydney. They're the best of best friends and there's nothing they don't know about the other. You can't have two people be better friends than these two but the problem is their feelings underneath aren't only of friendship. Kyler is a good guy, minus his do 'em and ditch 'em ways (not my type of guy) and he would do anything for Sydney. He's like a big brother which is not something you want the guy you're in love with to be. It just puts a damper on the whole thing.

This is one of those books where you know they're going to spill the beans about their feelings, get it on and then shit will hit the fan but it's not the shit hitting the fan that I want, it's the getting it on that I was dying for. The anticipation of the moment when they both realized it felt like it took f.o.r.e.v.e.r. No lie. But it wasn't a bad are we there yet because I liked reading their internal struggles. Actually, I loved reading them especially Sydney because I can't tell you how many times this girl embarrasses herself but it's so cute! Also the way that Kyler is convinced he's imagining things because there's no way a girl like Sydney could ever love a guy like him, no way in hell.

Them being trapped in the mother of all blizzards is perfect. It's cold so cuddle up, buttercup. The added bonus of their friends not being able to make it all the way out to West Virginia before the storm hits is a blessing. And speaking of friends, can I just say how much I LOVE their best friends, Tanner and Andrea. (Again, Tanner is a name I love so Jennifer obviously has great taste!) I haven't seen the description (if there is one) for the next book but I'm really hoping it's their story. There's chemistry there and it's just waiting to be let free!

As if fighting their true feelings isn't full of enough drama, you have someone out to get you. You have no idea why nor do you know what their true intent is but you might be convinced they're trying to kill you. Everything about this book was awesome. It leaves you feeling anything but Frigid. I also like how important the title of this book really intertwines with the actual storyline.

If you're a fan of New Adult or are willing to give these books a try, start with this book. I'm sure after reading this you'll want to see what else is out there. If you're a fan of Jennifer's Lux series and want something with a bit more romance (but sadly, less alien) then pick this up. There's a reason she's a New York Times Best-Selling Author. She knows how to tell a damn good story.

Thank you so much to Spencer Hill for having copies of Frigid available at BEA. I was very excited to have been one of the lucky ones to have gotten this and I received it in exchange for an honest review!
