My Unexpected Forever by Heidi McLaughlin
(Beaumont, #2)
Release Date: September 2, 2013
Publisher: self; 210 pages
I expected a life of music.
I expected to raise my son.
It took one look to make everything change.
I never expected happiness.
I never expected to find her.
I never expected to feel desire.
I never expected I’d be a family man.
I never expected to be loved.
I never expected to fall in love.
They say you should expect the unexpected, I didn’t realize my unexpected would be the forever kind.
If you have NOT read Forever My Girl, please read with caution. There are some spoilers that were unavoidable. Proceed with caution . . .
Who knew tattoos could be so hot? Certainly not me. Not that I'm against tattoos...just not really my thing. My opinion of them may have changed, though . . .
I'm not sure about you but when I found out this book was Harrison's story, I was a little bummed. I fell in love with Liam and Josie and desperately wanted more of them and was heartbroken to find out we were continuing their journey. So, for those of you who were the feeling the same way I was . . . have no fear! There's plenty of Josie & Liam to satisfy you but that won't matter by the end of this book because Harrison and Katelyn will steal your heart.
My favorite thing about this book might surprise but then again, I don't think it will. The kids; they are my favorite part about this book. You might think I'm weird for saying that because, hello, my favorite parts should be Harrison and Katelyn but those kids stole the show. Even over the very steamy scenes, which were aplenty. The twins, Elle and Peyton are just too precious; I've adored them since they were first introduced in Forever My Girl. We become more familiar with Quinn, Harrison's son and also his past (both of theirs), which is very interesting and extremely heartbreaking. Not to mention more of Noah, which is exciting because he's a Liam Jr.
This story begins nearly a year after Forever My Girl ends so while Katelyn is still in mourning of Mason, she always will be in mourning over his loss, she's had enough time to start adjusting to her life without him. She's starting to have friends, like Josie, telling her that Mason wouldn't want her alone for the rest of the life and she should consider dating again. Of course, she'll not hear any of that because her heart belongs to Mason and has only ever belonged to Mason. They are high school sweethearts and he's the only man she's ever loved; not having him there is like having a part of her missing. As cliche as that sounds, it's the truth. Harrison, on the other hand, doesn't try to shy away from his feelings for her but he's also not pushing her in to anything. The fact that she is the reason he stayed in Beaumont is really a testament to how much he cares for her.
Don't worry, things don't get crazy right away. We have to build up the romance and boy oh boy does Heidi do a phenomenal job with it. She made me cry at least two times (if I remember correctly they both are from flashback scenes...at least one of them certainly is), had me laughing many times but swooning even more. Katelyn has reservations about Harrison because of his tattoos; hasn't she ever heard the saying don't judge a book by it's cover? Yes, I know we all do it, I get that but we also know to look past the cover because that's not what really matters. It's what's under the cover that means everything to us. Same goes for Harrison; he may look like a complete badass with his tattoos but he is the perfect gentleman underneath but even more than that, he's the perfect dad. Quinn freaking adores him, Elle has made herself attached to him and who knows, before we know it, he could have all four kids hanging on his every word; it could only be a matter of time.
There's a scene with a motorcycle. It's pretty hot. That's really all I'm going to say but really, it's all I need to say.
Josie and Liam are even cuter than you could imagine. Even though Liam has been with plenty of girls since becoming a rockstar you can see how he's only had one girl on his mind. Josie has and will always be his girl and there's no one that could ever replace that. I want what they have; I think we all want what they have. Drama and all, I'd take it.
But what story doesn't have it's villains and it's bumps along the way? My Unexpected Forever has a few thrown in there and they're ones you want to hurt someone over. Mainly a few female characters.
The next book is going to be just as great and I really can't wait to read it. I'm ready to learn more about another character and I'm chomping at the bits to learn more about this one whom I won't name! ;)
If you haven't read Forever My Girl, shame on you for reading this review; even still, it's worth reading. If you've read Forever My Girl you are going to LOVE this book. Some even love it more than Forever My Girl; me - I'm not sure yet. I think I love them both equally but for different reasons.
Thank you so much to Good Choice Reading for having me on this tour and thank you Heidi for supplying the ARCs in exchange for an honest review. You're awesome.
