Before starting this review I guess I should start out by saying that young adult contemporary isn't usually my genre of choice for reading.  But after reading Hooked, I think I may actually start reading more books like this one.

Hooked is a story that takes place in Arizona.  It tells the story of a Native American teenage girl named Fred (short for Fredricka) who joins the boys golf team at her high school.  It also tells the story about Fred's teammate Ryan.  Hooked is in both Fred's and Ryan's point of view.  I personally am a fan of books with different point of views.  Even though I did like hearing the thoughts from both Fred and Ryan, I think it may have flowed a little bit better if it was told from one point of view.

I thoroughly enjoyed the beginning of this book.  I took an interest in these characters from the start.  Fred is easily likeable, and Ryan definitely developed into what one would consider to be crush worthy.  I really enjoyed seeing the growth of Ryan as the book progressed.  Ryan matured a lot.  And as a minority myself, I definitely could relate to Fred.  I think that this book is a very good read for anyone who's had issues with fitting in or getting along with others.

The relationship between Fred and Ryan is definitely something that everyone can relate to.  We are often put in situations where we can stick to what we know, or we can learn something new.  It's very easy to stick to your comfort zone, but something new can be exciting.  And it was very fun to see both Fred and Ryan see if they really wanted to be together, or stick to what and who they knew.

While reading, I struggled a bit with the dialogue between some of the supporting characters in the series.  I felt that they slang was also a little bit out dated.  And even though my favorite scenes were the ones where the characters were at school, I would have liked a few more scenes of the characters playing golf.

Hooked was a quick and easy read.  I would recommend it to anyone who is a fan of young adult contemporary.  The next book in the series "Played" is about two supporting characters from Hooked.  I can't wait to read their story!
