I’m terribly saddened to say this but this book really dragged for me. Both Obsidian and Onyx I was able to breeze through and absolutely love, hands down. Unfortunately not the case for Opal. I will say the last…maybe…quarter of the book was more enjoyable than everything else. It pains me to say this, you don’t even know. I’m obsessed with this series.

I sort of think it might have a little something to do with the fact of Daemon and Katy actually being together. For two whole books we had the usual bickering and fighting between the two with some really steamy scenes added in. Now we have none of that (minus the steamy scenes) and it’s just not as fun.

By me saying I didn’t enjoy it like the previous two (and short story, Shadows) doesn’t mean I didn’t like it. I did, a lot…I just felt it dragged moreso than the previous ones. One thing I liked most about this was the relationship between Katy and Dee. How real it seemed. It was ruined at the end of Onyx and Katy is doing everything in her power to try and find her way back to her best friend. But it’s not easy to forgive and forget…sometimes, it’s even impossible. I’ve always loved this friendship but I especially loved all the struggles seen in this book.

I also loved reading any and every scene with Dawson in it. I guess I’m also a really big fan of his relationship with Katy, as well. She’s really there for him and it’s super sweet. Not in the sense that she has any interest in him, in that way, but as family. She only has eyes for Daemon and Dawson is his brother, so therefore, he’s important to her. It’s totally cute and I absolutely ate that all up.

I do like the relationship between Daemon and Katy…I like it a lot but it just doesn’t have the same spunk that they had before they got together. Add Blake’s return to the mix and you’ve got some really interesting scenes, though. I am probably one of the few who, for whatever reason, seems to like Blake. Not for Katy, no but as a character…I find him fascinating. Trustworthy? Absolutely not…but that doesn’t necessarily make them an evil person.

Obviously, if you’re a fan of this series, you’re going to read this book or you already have. If you’ve never heard of this story (welcome out from that rock you’ve been hiding under) then start from the beginning and catch on up, will ya!

The ending is going to kill you. Absolutely gut you. I am still recovering from the ending, as I’m sure everyone else is, as well.
