(Everneath, #2)
Release Date: January 22, 2013
Publisher: Balzer + Bray; 368 pages
Nikki Beckett could only watch as her boyfriend, Jack, sacrificed himself to save her, taking her place in the Tunnels of the Everneath for eternity — a debt that should’ve been hers. She’s living a borrowed life, and she doesn’t know what to do with the guilt. And every night Jack appears in her dreams, lost and confused and wasting away.
Desperate for answers, Nikki turns to Cole, the immortal bad boy who wants to make her his queen — and the one person least likely to help. But his heart has been touched by everything about Nikki, and he agrees to assist her in the only way he can: by taking her to the Everneath himself.
Nikki and Cole descend into the Everneath, only to discover that their journey will be more difficult than they’d anticipated — and more deadly. But Nikki vows to stop at nothing to save Jack — even if it means making an incredible sacrifice of her own.
In this enthralling sequel to Everneath, Brodi Ashton tests the bonds of destiny and explores the lengths we’ll go to for the ones we love.
If you have NOT read Everneath please read with caution. There are some spoilers that were unavoidable. Proceed with caution . . .
I'm sure I'm in the minority here but oh how I love Cole. After finishing Everbound, I'm sure I'm not supposed to like him as much as I do but I can't help it. He's bad, oh yes he's definitely bad but he does everything for a reason to benefit him. Some call it selfish, hell I usually do but for some reason, it's sexy when he does it. Make sense? Absolutely not but it is what it is.
For you Jack fans, do not worry. I know Everneath ended with him bein taken to the tunnels in Nikki's place so you're probably wondering how fans of him will be satisfied, well Brodi definitely thought of that. Throughout the book we get to see different memories of Nikki and Jack. It was extremely enjoyable and so thrilling to see how they were when they were friends but dealing with their feelings for each other. Their first kiss. Her mothers funeral. Basically anything and everything. It gives the reader as much hope as Nikki that Jack will be found in time.
We also get plenty of Max, too whom I love as Cole's best friend. We don't really learn too much more about him but his company is definitely wanted (at least by me).
This book is full of action, especially in the second half. Once they enter the Everneath it's non-stop action and it makes this book so exciting. (More exciting, I should say) You see that as much as Nikki wants to hate Cole, she just can't. She can't fight the fact that there's a connection between them whether she wants to or not. Whether the time she spent with him in the feed is the cause or the fact that there might have been something there before the feed even took place, we'll never really know.
All I know is everything has changed. E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G. Things are going to get real exciting in the third book, and I am chomping at the bits waiting for it. Oh, I'm going to love it...I just know I am. More Cole. Yes, please. Lots and lots and lots. I am totally on Team Cole and I don't think that's going to change. The first book, I was split however, totally made up my mind here. (Though, I do like Jack so don't think I hate him or anything because I certainly don't)
If you haven't read the first book, you're slacking and should probably move that up your TBR pile like...now? If you have read Everneath then I ask you, why haven't you read Everbound? Don't worry, I'll be nice since it has only been out for a week and all...but I definitely hope it's something you plan to read soon. Definitely an enjoyable series that will end up being epic in the final book. I just know it!
