Greta and the Goblin King by Chloe Jacobs
(Mylena Chronicles, #1)
Release Date: November 13, 2012
Publisher: Entangled Teen; 290 pages
While trying to save her brother from a witch’s fire four years ago, Greta was thrown in herself, falling through a portal to Mylena, a dangerous world where humans are the enemy and every ogre, ghoul, and goblin has a dark side that comes out with the eclipse.

To survive, Greta has hidden her humanity and taken the job of bounty hunter—and she’s good at what she does. So good, she’s caught the attention of Mylena’s young goblin king, the darkly enticing Isaac, who invades her dreams and undermines her will to escape.

But Greta’s not the only one looking to get out of Mylena. An ancient evil knows she’s the key to opening the portal, and with the next eclipse mere days away, every bloodthirsty creature in the realm is after her—including Isaac. If Greta fails, she and the lost boys of Mylena will die. If she succeeds, no world will be safe from what follows her back...

Chloe Jacobs is a native of nowhere and everywhere, having jumped around to practically every Province of Canada before finally settling in Ontario where she has now been living for a respectable number of years. Her husband and son are the two best people in the entire world, but they also make her wish she'd at least gotten a female cat. No such luck. And although the day job keeps her busy, she carves out as much time as possible to write. Bringing new characters to life and finding out what makes them tick and how badly she can make them suffer is one of her greatest pleasures, almost better than chocolate and fuzzy pink bunny slippers.

So let me start off by being honest. I wasn't sure I would really like this book, not because it didn't sound interesting but when you think goblin's you don't exactly think 'possible hottie love interest', right? Plus there's things like ogres and gnomes and I mean...not very appealing right? However, I gave this a shot for two reasons. One, I'm a big fan of Entangled and Entangled Teen. I've yet to be really disappointed by any of their books. I'm actually huge fans of many of their books and the more I can read of their books, the happier I am. Second, this book just sounded too damn interesting not to read. As you can see by my rating, I am super glad I decided to take a chance on this book. Blew.Me.Away.

Can we talk about the cover for a second, too? This cover is absolutely spot on. Not only the setting of it is perfect but the clothing and even the models (minus the girls hair but everything can't be spot on, right?). Perfect cover so again, well done Entangled!

Now to gush about this story. This book is like nothing I've ever read before. I'm sure, if you read my reviews, you might hear me say that a lot but let me tell you...this time, I'm dead serious. I mean, just go back to my first paragraph if you need an explanation of why it's so different. Chloe Jacobs has proven me wrong. A Goblin can be sexy, powerful and so damn swoon-worthy. Isaac, who is the new Goblin King, is able to visit Greta in her dreams. Sounds creepy, right? Well, it kind of is (at first). Apparently, by saying his name it gives him access to your dreams. (I do wish there was a bit more explaining regarding this...) He tricked her in to saying his name because, with her being human, she didn't know any different. Big mistake on her part. You hope when you sleep that you get nice, peaceful rest but not when you have someone like Isaac trying to manipulate you during your sleep. We soon realize that his manipulating soon turns to flirting which then actually forms in to him admitting his true feelings and intentions toward her. All he wants to do is protect her. All he's ever wanted to do, since meeting her, was protect her. It goes from being creepy to being insanely sweet.

Greta is so kickass, she definitely makes my top 10 list of kickass heroines. She was thrown in to a world that she didn't know existed. Thought to be the only human here and made sure to keep her identity a secret for fear it would get her killed if word got out. A sprite who found her when she was just thirteen years old raised her to be a bounty hunter, like himself. He trained her ruthlessly day in and day out. At times, it was so rough she hated him with all of her being but he only wanted her to be the best she could (and to also help her stay alive). Luke was a father figure to her and really, all she had in this new life she's been living for the past four years. The book starts off with her out trying to save a goblin kid and from there, the action doesn't ever end.

Greta has new obstacles thrown in her path with every page that the reader turns. You wonder, at times, how she's ever going to make it out alive and it keeps you on the edge of your seat hoping she will. She meets some interesting characters along the way, some you'll find yourself extremely attached to. (I won't spoil it and tell you who but I'm sure I can guess at least one of them!) She puts herself in situations where to others it would appear to be a suicide mission and sometimes, you just wonder what's going on in that head of hers.

This book was just so amazing. I stayed up last night until my vision was getting blurry because I just couldn't put it down. I kept telling myself, after this chapter I will go to bed. The chapter ended and I couldn't stop there, I had to know what happened. It was a never ending cycle. Though, when you can't read the words on the page in front of you, it's a good sign as any that it's time to call it a night. Seriously. Buy this book, read this book, love this book. I assure you that you will! Thank you so much to Entangled Teen, Chloe Jacobs and Shane from Itching for Books for allowing me to be a part of this blog tour!
