Tara Fuller writes novels; some about grim reapers and some about witches. All of course are delightfully full of teen angst and kissing. Tara grew up in a one stop light town in Oklahoma where once upon a time she stayed up with a flash light reading RL Stine novels and only dreamed of becoming a writer. She has a slight obsession with music and a shameless addiction for zombie fiction, Mystery Science Theater, and black and white mochas. Tara no longer lives in a one stop light town. Now she lives with her family in a slightly larger town in North Carolina where they have at least three stoplights.

I struggled with this book. There some things that I really loved about it but some things that just couldn't hold my attention. I really enjoyed the male characters in this story but I just couldn't bring myself to really care all that much for Emma. Which is a shame because she is the main character. I do believe this is the reason it took me so long to finish this book.

Finn is dreamy. This much I knew coming in to the story. He's a gentleman, which you would suspect him to be seeing as he died during World War II. He's a reaper and it's his job to collect souls and deliver them to the Inbetween. His best friends are Anaya, who is a reaper for heaven and Easton, who is a reaper for hell. I love this trio and I even love the combination of Scout toward the end. Finn is a rule breaker when it comes to Emma...he always has been. A guy who will break any rule to be with the girl he loves, and protect the girl he loves is a stand up guy in my eyes.

Cash, who is Emma's best friend and basically her brother, minus the blood relation. He is her neighbor and everything Finn is not. He's obviously a womanizer and has absolutely no shame in being so. One thing I will give him credit for, since he's not the kind of guy I'd fancy, is that he loves Emma with all his heart. I don't mean in a romantic way, I mean in the way that he would do anything for her, as well. She is his rock, if you will. You don't really see nor hear of many male/female friendships that are this strong and yet are platonic. It will be interesting to see how things are in the second book, especially with how they ended for him.

Emma. I can't really tell you why I didn't like her...besides the fact that she just didn't seem appealing in any way. Usually I can find myself connecting with the main character on some level and I just couldn't with her. I came around to liking her by the end of the book but it's tough going an entire book, waiting for something and not really enjoying it as much as you could. It's a shame because I was super excited about reading this book because I had heard so many great things - only to be let down. Don't get me wrong, the story and the plot, that was amazing. It's something I've never read before and that I really, really enjoyed. But I'm just one of those readers that needs to connect to the characters to have a good time and I just didn't have that.

Do I recommend this book? Absolutely. Like I said, I've seen so many positive things about this book from other readers so it's obviously something a lot of people will enjoy. I did enjoy it, so don't think I didn't. I just didn't love it. I will probably buy it in paperback to own and I will read the next book, for sure.
