Thank you to netgalley and Zondervan for allowing me the opportunity to review HALFLINGS.
HALFLINGS is another one of those books I've been wanting to read for awhile now and I was really excited to but...it failed to live up to my hype for it. I first heard about HALFLINGS on goodreads during one of the giveaways; I didn't win but it didn't stop me from wanting to read it. I was really disappointed with it. I feel like there were a lot of things that just weren't answered in this book. Yes, I know it's a series but even so, something should be resolved in the first book but I don't feel like it was. And the ending was just awful. I get cliffhangers, they're horrible to the reader but I get them but just ending the book I don't get. It was just really weird and the first time I've come across such a sudden ending.
Nikki or Nicole Youngblood is the main character whose world is turned upside down by becoming involved in the war between Heaven and Hell and she comes off as a tough girl, one who has been doing karate most of her life but throughout the book, I feel let down by her. She cries on more occasions than I can count and she is always appearing to be the damsel in distress. For someone with so much training, if you will, I would've expected more from her. I understand fighting hell hounds isn't the same as fighting something...normal but I don't know, she didn't seem so tough to me.
As for her love life, being torn between the good guy (Mace) and the bad boy (Raven) was frustrating. Especially since they're "brothers". I understand the attraction to the bad boy but if you feel you can't be with Mace because it's against everything he is, then why even attempt Raven? He's a halfling, too, so it's really no different? I do really like the guys, especially their youngest "brother", Vine. He seems so innocent but strong and I love that about him. I have a horrible feeling that he's going to get stuck in between the tension with Raven and Mace in a future book and the outcome isn't going to be so great. I'm going with my gut on that one ;)
As disappointed as I was in some of the decisions in this book, I did enjoy it, believe it or not. It's not the best thing I've read, by far, but it's certainly not the worst either. It kept me entertained enough and interested enough but it was just seriously lacking.
This isn't high up on my recommendation list but if you do want to read it, I recommend checking it out at your local library. But if you like Angel books, maybe you'll enjoy this.

It sucks that you were disappointed, but it does sound very promising! I do love books about angels, so I might actually give this ago. Great review(:
ReplyDeleteYes, I love books about angels, which is why I was very excited about this book. I hope you like it more than I did. I am curious :) And like I said, it's not horrible, it definitely had potential but it was just lacking. I'm going to read the next book but this isn't one I'm going to go out and buy, unfortunately. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you!
