I decided that I wanted to read this book, after reading Maggie's other series, The Wolves of Mercy Falls (Shiver & Linger). I fell in love with her writing with that series so I decided that I would read her other books, and let me tell you, I was not disappointed in the least.
Lament was the first book I had read about Faeries, and it was also a different view for me on Faeries, but I liked it. When you think of faeries, you usually think of little ones like Tinkerbell, well these faeries are nothing like Tinkerbell, lol. Far from it actually. These faeries are scary yet beautiful and mean business.
In this book, the instant connection between the two main characters, Deirdre and Luke, is very sudden but it works. I love how Maggie describes the different smells that faeries seem to have, it adds a realistic touch to this paranormal story. I also do love how enigmatic the character of Luke is, it makes anyone want to keep reading because he is very intriguing, as well as the relationship with Dee and Luke. You can feel the sexual tension between Dee and Luke and you just pull very hard for them to be together. Also, Dee's best friend in the story adds an interesting twist and adds to the suspense of the ending. This book was suspenseful and nail biting, and I was not disappointed by it at all.
Maggie's writing, again for me, was very descriptive and I could visualize all the scenes in the book and put myself in the moment, especially with her descriptive smells and views on the surroundings I was able to escape into the book.
The ending of this book surprised me a lot, but that's all I will say, for I do not want to spoil it. It may not surprise others, but for me, I did not see that ending coming at all. It was definitely a different twist. Very nicely done Maggie!
